HP LaserJet Managed Flow MFP E82560z Lab Test Report
www.keypointintelligence.com
OUR TAKEThe HP LaserJet Managed Flow MFP E82560z gave a very good overall performance in lab testing. The de-vice exhibited near-flawless reliability, with just 2 mis-feeds occurring over its 300,000-impression test. With simple procedures for replacing toner and waste toner containers and extensive help in the rare instance that a misfeed occurs, users are promised minimal downtime throughout the course of a day. Dark and fully formed characters, bold solids, and distinct and consistent fine lines ensure printed output meets the general needs of an office environment. Users will also be impressed with how quickly they can program their print, scan, and copy jobs thanks to print job profiles at the driver, and Quick Sets for scan to email, scan to network folder, scan to USB, scan to SharePoint, and copy workflows. While by and large, print and copy speeds were slower than aver-age, a built-in hard keypad for entering destinations and fast duplex scan speeds give a boost to scan productivi-ty. IT administrators will appreciate the easy-to-use web utility, which includes a built-in search capability to easi-ly locate desired functions, and the award-winning fleet management platform, Web Jetadmin. The device is also priced much lower than average compared to similar-ly equipped models. Still, the device’s performance was strong overall, and with an above-average feature set, it’s a good value. Buyers Lab highly recommends the HP La-serJet Managed Flow MFP E82560z for mid-size to large workgroups.

No user intervention is required for the configuration of accessories during setup. In addition, the install utility has built-in test-page printing, but drivers cannot be pushed out to multiple PCs during install. The administrator can select to share the driver with the entire network prior to completing installation. Cloning is not supported.
The web utility is logically organized and easy to use overall, although LDAP capabilities are located under the Security tab versus the more appropriate Scan/Digital Send tab. A built-in search capability takes users directly to the selected function. Remote firmware upgrades are supported. An administrator can also configure control panel default settings and enable or disable capabilities for all scan and copy functions.
The device supports HP Web Jetadmin 10.4, honored as a Winter 2017 Pick winner for Outstanding Fleet Management Plat-form. The embedded web user interface provides the percentage of toner remaining, as well as the approximate pages remaining, install date and last usage date. Contacts, email addresses and phone numbers can be added to the supplies status page of the control panel for convenient reordering of supplies. Remaining amount of media in the paper drawers is also indicated with a gauge in percent increments. The capacity of each drawer, size of paper loaded, and type of paper in each tray is also provided. Detailed job lists are available for print, scan and copy jobs, as is a job history that can be exported. A drop down menu is available for listing all job types or singling out specific type jobs including Copy, Encrypted Jobs, Fax, Fax Archive, HTTP, incoming faxes, Print, Scan to Email, Network Folder, SharePoint, and USB.

While there are easy-to-see limit indicators in drawers and no rollers or guides that could get in the way of loading media, adjusting paper drawers is more dif-ficult than with most competitors; one hand must be used to hold down the locking switch while the other hand is used to move the side guide in each of the stan-dard drawers. For most other competing machines, the locking switch remains in the unlocked position until the side guide is adjusted.
The process for replacing toner is simple and clean. The display provides detailed instructions including text, graphics and animation. Replacing the waste con-tainer is also simple.
WALK-UP EXPERIENCE 8.5
The control panel features a highly intuitive and clean design with slide/swipe navigation and a built-in hard keypad for ease of entering scan destinations.
While it’s easy to enter scan destinations thanks to the built-in hard keypad and dedicated “@” and “.” keys, there is no sup-port for storing extensions and no support for storing domains as one-touch keys. Only one scan destination is supported in each session.
Feature-rich scan and copy previews.
Dynamic help key (?) includes an index of terms and will bring a user to specific details on the currently selected function.
All commonly used features are programmable from the main scan and copy screens.
The scan to USB menu is the same as scan to email menu, ensuring a smooth transition from one to the other. The menu also includes support for encrypted PDF, as well as the ability to name files, store into subfolders, and create folders from the device; preview is also supported.
While the LDAP search is intuitive overall, only 1 LDAP server is supported, whereas most competitors support several LDAP servers. Manually entered addresses at the control panel can be stored to the local address book, but the contacts icon must be used. Users are also prompted to add contacts when sending to an email address not already stored in the contacts list.

Job build for scanning supports mixed-size original feeding and mixplex changes between batches, but does not support image quality changes between batches. Users can mix pages from the platen and document feeder when using scan preview and adding pages.
Commonly used jobs types can be quickly and easily stored on the scan and copy menus as one-touch keys via Quick Sets.
While in default settings the job queue shows all jobs, jobs can be separated into as many as 11 additional queues, in-cluding print jobs, encrypted print jobs, copy jobs, email jobs, received faxes, archived faxes, sent faxes, network folder, SharePoint folder, USB jobs, and HTTP jobs.
Jobs in the queue cannot be modified and can only be promoted to the second slot versus one slot at a time.
While interrupt mode is not supported, the General Settings tab offers a setting called Hold Off Print Job, which prevents print jobs from starting while a user is initiating a copy job from the control panel, retrieving a job in the product memory, or retrieving a job from a USB drive. Held jobs start printing after the copy job or retrieved print job is finished.
Users often do not need to leave the main copy screen to program jobs, as the next logical steps in a workflow process typically open in a window within the main tab. Icons on the Home screen can be moved using the cus-tomize home screen feature within the embedded web page.
A feature-rich scan preview includes the ability to view more than one page, enlarge view, move pages, delete pages, replace pages, and rotate pages; onscreen edit-ing is not supported. The copy preview is feature-rich, allowing users to flip through pages with a finger swipe, add and delete pages, as well as zoom. Changes can also be made to each page added.

Stored Quick Sets can be moved to the Home screen for easier access. Items on the Home screen can also be rearranged, moved to different pages, or removed altogether via the web user interface.
WORKSTATION EXPERIENCE 6.0
Users can streamline complex workflows via the Printing Shortcuts tab; some of the more commonly used print functions are programmable from the Printing Shortcuts tab in default settings, including paper size, paper source, simplex/duplex, and orientation.
The Services tab provides convenient access to internet services including product manuals, driver updates, and support and troubleshooting.
While there is no dedicated tab for environmentally friendly features, the EcoSmart shortcut automatically selects green features such as duplex.
Secure print procedures are intuitive, and username and filename can be hidden, though they are visible in default set-tings. Multiple secure print jobs can be unlocked if under the same user, and can be printed simultaneously. Only quantity can be modified for secure print jobs prior to release.
Direct printing is supported from the web utility for PDFs and office files, and users can output multiple sets and change quantity, but cannot create profiles. Collate can also be changed.
The print from USB menu automatically populates upon USB insertion to the port and allows users to browse into subfold-ers, and supports PDF and TIFF formats. JPEG, DOC and PPT formats are not supported. Users cannot change settings for quantity, simplex/duplex, paper size, or source.
The embedded web user interface provides detailed consumables status and highly customizable email alerts that can be set up for different users and groups.
No support for print job completion or deletion notification, but once the job has finished, users can see the duration of the job from its start time to completion.

While an entire tab of the driver cannot be customized, via the Printing Shortcuts tab, users can save an unlim-ited amount of custom profiles to streamline complex workflows. Adding shortcuts is simple, although users must always click back to the Printing Shortcuts tab to save a new profile, whereas the drivers of some other OEMs allow users to save settings from any tab, which is more convenient.

SUPPORTING TEST DATA
Test Environment: This product was tested in Buyers Lab’s environmentally controlled US test lab, which rep-licates typical office conditions.
Test Equipment: Buyers Lab’s dedicated test network, consisting of Windows 2008 and Microsoft Exchange serv-ers, Windows 7 workstations, 10/100/1000BaseTX network switches and CAT6 cabling.
Test Duration: A single product is tested for two months, five weeks of which consists of a durability test during which the product is run at its manufacturer-rated maximum monthly duty cycle, with 25 percent of the test vol-ume comprised of copy jobs and 75 percent comprised of print jobs. Buyers Lab’s daily test usage is designed to replicate real-world use over an eight-hour workday, and as such includes a mix of various-size documents, sim-plex and duplex modes, and a mix of short, moderate and long run lengths, and on/off cycles, throughout the day. The durability evaluation also includes testing of the document feeder/scanner in simplex and duplex modes for an additional 10 percent of the monthly maximum volume, evenly divided over the course of the test.
Tested Configuration: HP LaserJet Managed Flow MFP E82560z base unit, plus Y1G00A finisher with punch unit and 2,000-sheet high capacity feeder.
Test Procedures: Buyers Lab’s lab testing includes both Buyers Lab’s proprietary and industry-standard test pro-cedures and documents. In addition to a visual image quality evaluation, optical density of primary color (CMYK) solid fill output is measured using a densitometer, and color gamut and consistency are evaluated using a color spectrophotometer. The reliability test is conducted using Georgia Pacific and Boise paper in the US, and UPM, Data Copy and Mondi paper in the UK. In both labs, 30 percent of the paper is recycled. The media used for image quality testing is Georgia Pacific Printing Paper (24 lb., 96 brightness) in the US and UPM Future ImageTech 100 gsm in the UK.
Competitive Group: The analysis in this report compares the tested device to a group of all other currently avail-able like models (e.g., color vs. color, copied-based vs. copier-based) in the same speed range (5 ppm up and down from the speed of the tested device) with support for the same media size. For test performance categories, the results are compared with those of currently available tested models in the group, whereas for feature set and pricing, the comparison is made against all currently available models in the group, whether tested or not. The pricing analysis is for devices comparably configured with accessories and the most common options.
Note: This report is based on Buyers Lab testing one representative test sample at a specific point in time. Buyers Lab is not responsible for differences in performance that may be the result of lot-to-lot variation, changes in pro-duction and machine modifications implemented by the manufacturer, service issues or any other reason beyond Buyers Lab’s control.
