    Change

  • With the constant competitive pressure to innovate quickly and deliver greater value to their customers, midsized organizations look to technology to help spur growth, improve efficiencies, and stay ahead of competition. These organizations depend on their networks to orchestrate connectivity and deliver services, but are often constrained by costly and inefficient technology and old cumbersome management systems that limit efficiency and delay implementation of innovative solutions.

HP is changing the rules of networking that have perpetuated these business-draining conditions.

The HP standards-based approach to networking helps organizations to quickly reduce complexity while increasing business agility with an end-to-end unified wired and wireless network infrastructure solution designed for the needs of midmarket businesses.

It’s all about delivering modular, standards-based technologies designed for convergence. The result is an infrastructure that simplifies and integrates the network from end to end.

Moreover, the efficiency gains allow you to shift the bulk of your IT budget from operations to business innovations. The components of an HP Converged Infrastructure deliver the value you need today by positioning you to manage, protect, and grow your business through each pain point and milestone.

A glance at the solution componentsNetwork core:•HP E54xxzl or HP E82xxzl modular switch provide

enterprise-class rich features and integrated security, scalable connectivity (10 Mb to 10GbE), and hosted applications on the HP AllianceONE Services zl Module.

    Access layer:•HP E2910al fixed-port switches offer scalable

connectivity through high-speed uplinks (trunked Gigabit), integrated security and PoE/PoE+ for VoIP, wireless access points, and other PoE-powered devices.

Wireless LAN:•HP E-MSM765zl Mobility Controller is integrated

within the HP E54xxzl or HP E82xxzl chassis with support for HP MSM IEEE 802.11n/a/b/g access points (up to 200 devices) for centralized security and access control, advanced layer 2/3 roaming, and secure guest access.

•HP E-MSM460 and HP E-MSM466 Dual Radio 802.11n Access Points bring 802.11n performance to 450 Mb/s per radio and enhance coverage areas with beam-forming technology. Both access points provide backward compatibility for 802.11a/b/g legacy clients.

    Data center (optional):•HP E3500 fixed-port switches with 24- to 48-port

scalable connectivity and flexible uplink options provide server aggregation up to 4 x 10 Gb.

System-level high availability and hot swappable redundant power supply make the switches an ideal choice for midmarket data center solutions, including iSCSI SAN deployment.

Network management:•The HP Network Management applications simplify

maintenance and network monitoring across wired and wireless networks for auto discovery, mapping, polling, network analysis and diagnostics, and automated policy/configuration management. With plug-ins for wired, wireless, and security HP PCM+ remains your single and easy-to-use management platform.

Network security—perimeter and interior protection:•HP Threat Management Services zl Module

deployed in HP E54xxzl or HP E82xxzl switches provides network zoning for interior protection and perimeter firewall and virtual private network (VPN) to prevent unauthorized access.

•HP TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System (S110 IPS) protects data and applications from attacks and exploits with in-line deep packet inspection and Digital Vaccine Filters.

•HP Identity Driven Manager for policy and identity-based network access rights.

•Complementing HP TippingPoint security for the wired network, HP Wireless IDS/IPS coupled with dedicated RF sensors protects your wireless network from security threats.

HP Networking, a key element of the HP Converged Infrastructure, can help you to respond to new opportunities through HP end-to-end unified networking solutions that allow you to:

Reduce the complexity and therefore the time required for planning, deploying, and managing wired and wireless networks With HP Networking solutions you have the ability to address the increased demands for mobile and fixed access to applications. HP simplifies the network with a unified approach to networking with a unified wired and wireless solution that can be managed from a single console. At the same time it helps ensure that regardless of whether users are connecting via a wired or wireless connection their security profile and connectivity options will be consistent.

Improve business agility through the ability to deliver new services The HP commitment to open networking standards means your organization will have the flexibility to build an efficient infrastructure optimized to its needs. Your business can choose from the industry’s proven network applications offered through the HP Alliance Open Network Ecosystem (http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/products/application-delivery/index.aspx), which includes solutions across network security, unified communications, application delivery, and more.

Reduce annual networking cost per user by up to 66 percent A recent International Data Corporation (IDC) study (September 2010) commissioned by HP concluded that HP Networking solutions can reduce total cost of networking by up to 66 percent, showing an 8.4 month payback and a 466 percent return on investment.1 HP reduces networking costs by simplifying the infrastructure with complete end-to-end solutions designed to complement the HP Converged Infrastructure.

“To determine the return on investment (ROI) associated with implementation of an HP Networking–based network solution, IDC conducted a study of 12 medium-sized to large organizations with an HP Networking infrastructure deployed in their production environment. IDC estimates that these businesses were able to reduce their total costs of networking by 66% and achieve a 466% ROI; a three-year (discounted) benefit of $147,250 per 100 users; and payback on their initial investment within 8.4 months.” Source: “ROI of a Complete Networking Portfolio: Delivering Value from the Network Edge to the Core”, IDC white paper sponsored by HP, September 2010.

The HP Networking solution advantage:Reduced complexityHP simplifies the network with a unified approach: wired and wireless hardware, software, management, and security. Our integrated, easy-to-use management features reduce the time and complexity of planning, deploying, and operating wired and wireless LANs from a single management platform.

Built-in securitySecurity is built into the network fabric, as opposed to it being an afterthought. Identity-driven access control, threat management, and intrusion protection services enforce security throughout the network. Policies are enforced consistently for both wired and wireless users from the same management system.

Adaptive to changeBusiness agility is critical to delivering new services to win and retain customers and compete effectively. HP Networking solutions are standards-based and open for growth and interoperability. With command from the center and control at the edge, HP delivers a virtualized network edge. As users move around the network, user access and control policies are dynamically applied at the point of entry to the network, delivering a consistent security experience no matter how (through wires or wireless) or where (local or remote) users connect to the network.

Designed for efficiencyTo do more with less, you need robust networking solutions that help optimize the total cost of ownership, including the cost of acquisition, operation, maintenance, and the ongoing cost of service and support contracts. HP Networking products set the standards for quality and reliability, and come with warranties you would expect from a brand like HP.
