The Rise of AI Will Force Data Scientists to Evolve or Get Left BehindAfter a few decades of exploration of symbolic AI methods, the field shifted toward statistical approaches, that have as of late started working in a broad array of tasks due to the explosion of data and computing power, this in turn has led to machine learning and, most importantly, enabled deep learning.

This is great news for the tech industry. The downside is that there aren’t enough data scientists that understand deep learning. For those who do, there is a huge demand for their services.

Where AI and Robotics are Headed in 2017Predictive analytics and artificial intelligence enable companies to sharply reduce downtime and ensure optimal application performance, essentially switching from “firefighter mode” to a more proactive IT strategy, he added. “This year, it will become painfully obvious which industry players are holding on to the “speeds and feeds” model, because they will be the ones falling behind,” he said.

“In 2017, intelligence will triumph over measuring speed in flops. Over the last several decades, we have competed upon speed with the intent to build the world’s fastest supercomputer. Supercomputers moving forward will measured not by their computational peaks, but their artificial intelligence capability. AI is the new computational tool for supercomputing,” said Ian Buck, vice president of accelerated computing at NVIDIA.

AI Algorithm Diagnoses Rare Eye Condition“For doctors, technology is not sufficient to determine the best course of treatment with 100 percent certainty, and doctors should therefore make good use of the machine’s suggestion to identify and prevent the potential misclassification and complement their own judgment,” said study co-author Haotian Lin, a professor of ophthalmology at Sun Yat-sen University. “The results of our comparative analysis showed that both artificial intelligence and human intelligence have strengths and limitations.”

Using CUDA, TITAN X Pascal GPUs and the cuDNN-accelerated Caffe deep learning framework, the researchers algorithm was able to catch the disease with more than 90% accuracy.

Eight Industries That AI Will Change ForeverCompanies handle a great deal of information every day, which can make it difficult to tease out trends or watch for sales opportunities. Artificial intelligence (AI) improvements are reducing that strain by automating data analysis, which can reduce costs as well as the time required to make decisions.

Recent AI technology developments mean that firms now have a chance to take advantage of stronger analysis automation in fields like shipping, travel, health care and even transportation. Below, executives from Forbes Technology Council highlight eight industries that will benefit most from artificial intelligence.
