High-Performance Site Solution  Up with mobile broadbandcoverage and capacity

Smart devices are a boon and a bane for communication service providers (CSPs). They offer rich opportunities and account for much of the industry’s growth butthey pose great challenges for CSPs hard-pressed to meet skyrocketing demand.

On top of the ever increasing laptop user traffic, smart devices generate unprecedentedlevels of data coupled with hugely increased mobility, forcing CSPs to cope with surgingtraffic and spiking subscriber demand by deploying added resources, such as carriersand new base stations.

The bandwidth/ cost crunch

The conventional approach to tackling

the bandwidth challenge is to

Find new sites•

Efciently increase spectrum•

Improve indoor coverage•

Add new resources to legacy sites•

But these options are not always

available, financially feasible, or even

practical. Conventional approachesfailed to extend both capacity and

coverage at the same time, so past

attempts to improve performance

involved a trade-off between the two.

Mobile broadband

everywhere

It takes a smarter network to satisfy

fast-growing user and traffic demands

and deliver mobile broadband

everywhere, to keep everyone connected

all the time. Nokia Siemens Networkshas developed such an innovative and

intelligent solution to handle data traffic

growth. Called the High-Performance

Site Solution or HPSS for short, it is

engineered to improve GSM, WCDMA,

and LTE network performance, treating

subscribers to true broadband and a

high-end mobile experience.

Have it all:

GSM, WCDMA & LTE

Based on the Flexi Multiradio BTS, anaward-winning base station featuring

GSM, WCDMA and LTE capabilities

rolled into the same hardware, HPSS

pushes far beyond the boundaries of

conventional networks’ capabilities by

expanding the traditional three-sector

setup to six sectors. This six-sector

site configuration constitutes a major

advance in performance and efficiency.

And all this power comes in an ultra

compact package augmented with

modern dual-sector and multiband

antenna technology.

Twice as much for

GSM and EDGE

Paired with our spectral efficiency

enhancing features and dual-sector

antennas, HPSS

Provides twofold the capacity•

for GSM and EDGE

Doubles the capacity of trafc•

channels

Increases signaling capacity, which•

is such a crucial resource for serving

the demands of smart devices

Taking mobile broadband coverage

and capacity up a notch or two, HPSS

clearly outperforms the conventional

base station.

Extending WCDMA/LTEcapacity and coverage

with utmost efficiency

What’s more, HPSS can boost base

station capacity for WCDMA and LTE

by as much as 80 percent. This high

capacity gain has already been proven

in live networks for WCDMA which has

also revealed a 40 percent greater

coverage per base station, thanks to

higher-gain antennas, taking network

performance and user experience

to a new level. This extraordinary

improvement comes courtesy of a

streamlined design with twice as many

resources and higher order sectorization,

bringing the total number of sectors to

six, each with dedicated power amplifiers.

Smart and streamlined

HPSS leaves a very small footprint

indeed, with the most compact variation

comprising just three lightweight Flexi

Multiradio modules – one system module

connected via fiber to two radio modules.Despite taking up such little space and

weighing less than 75 kg, this ultra

compact setup produces an impressive

360 watts of output power.

Multiple technologies

and frequencies

Several prominent antenna makers

already offer dual-sector antennas.

One antenna element supports two

sectors, so solution featuring this

breed of state-of-the-art antennacan accommodate several additional

frequency bands. Our HPSS combines

compact Flexi Multiradio Base Station

hardware and three antennas to make

the most of these capabilities and

operate multiple technologies and

frequencies simultaneously.

Stepping up to a

smarter network

 Alongside cost-efficiency, convenience,

and performance power, one of the

greatest advantages of HPSS is that

the entire package is rugged and

robust enough to be sited outdoors

close to antennas. This field-proven

outdoor design maximizes CSPs’

benefits: For one, the proximity to

antennas further improves performance.

For the other, because HPSS is so

easily deployed outdoors, CSPs

can capitalize on further cost-saving

opportunities by removing cabinets

and indoor sites.

Why HPSS?

In a nutshell, the Nokia Siemens

Networks High-Performance Site

Solution enable CSPs to build smarter,

streamlined and more cost-efficient

networks to master the capacity and

coverage challenge, and bring services

to market faster, at lower expense,

and with far greater quality.

What can this solution do

for CSPs? HPSS

• Provides cost-effective means of

delivering the mobile broadband

coverage and capacity required to

satisfy growing demand for bandwidth• Vastly improves GSM, EDGE, WCDMA,

and LTE network performance

• Boosts signaling capacity to

better serve smart devices

• Enables high-end mobile

broadband services

• Provides better coverage with fewer sites

Every effort is made to ensure that ourcommunications materials have as little

impact on the environment as possible
