1. General instructionsThe HQ-Box BIOS is based on InsydeH2O® UEFI BIOS with comprehensive support for the latest UEFI and Secure BIOS.The HQ-Box BIOS provides a “Setup Utility” for viewing and changing system settings and enabling/disabling specificfeatures.There are two ways to access the “Setup Utility”:

• Direct – repeatedly press “F2” after power up / system restart.• Through “Front Page” Graphical Interface (FGI) – press the <ESC> key after power up / system restart and

then subsequently choose the “SCU” icon on screen.The “Setup Utility” interface is menu-based. Menu item navigation is done using the left/right arrows on the keyboard, while up/down arrows allow navigation within each menu. Press the <Enter > key to select an item and reveal it’s sub menu. Use the <ESC> key to return to the previous menu.There are several useful shortcuts available for the “Setup Utility”:

• <F9> - Load Setup Defaults• <F10> - Save and Exit• <F1> - Help• <Enter> - Select / Enter Sub menu• <ESC> - Exit / Exit to previous menu

There are six main BIOS Setup Menus:• Main• Advanced• Security• Power• Boot• Exit

The following chapters will provide a brief description of the menus, highlighting useful options or info provided in each one. Options of little importance will be omitted from the description.

2. Main MenuThe “Main Menu” provides a quick overview of the basic system information and the ability to change the BIOS display language and system time.

• BIOS Version – displays the software version of HQ-Box’s BIOS• Build Date – displays the BIOS production date• Build Time – displays the BIOS production time• Processor Type – displays the make, model and speed of the CPU• System Memory Speed – displays the auto-detected speed of memory• Total Memory – displays the total amount of installed system memory• Language – selects the language of the Setup Utility (English, French, 日本語, 中文)• System Time – allows the user to change the system time• System Date – allows user to change the system date

• SATA Controller – enables/disables SATA related drivers• HDC Configure As – sets SATA Controller to IDE/AHCI/RAID mode• SATA Mode options – additional SATA configurations• SATA Speed Support – sets/displays the SATA controller speed• SATA Port [x] – provides per-port enabling/disabling for ports 0-4• Serial ATA Port [x] – displays the status of disks attached to ports 0-4• SATA Port [x] HotPlug – enables/disables HotPlug support for ports 0-4• SSD P[x] Therm Throt – enables/disables thermal throttling for ports 0-4 (for SSD only)

• PCI Express Configuration – PCH PCIe Root Port configuration form• CRID – enables/disables PCH chipset compatible revision ID• GPIO Lockdown – enables/disables GPIO lockdown feature. GPIO registers will be read-only (RO) when

feature is enabled• RTC Lock – enables/disables lock of bytes 38h-3Fh in the RTC RAM• Serial IRQ Mode – sets IRQ operational mode• BIOS Lock – enables/disables PCH BIOS Lock feature• Port 80 Cycles – sets Port 80 R/W cycle on LPC or PCI bus• After G3 On – sets ACPI state after “power on” to be S0/S5/Last State • PCH Thermal Device – enables/disables PCH Thermal Device

attached to it

• Socket 0 CPU Information – detailed information form for the CPU • Hyper-Threading [All] – enables/disables Hyper Threading • TSEG Smram Size – changes the size of SMRAM to TSEG• Check CPU BIST Result – disables failed BIST core when this feature is enabled, otherwise ignores BIST

results• Performance/Watt – chooses between Traditional (standard) and Power-Optimized option.• Execute Disable Bit – enables/disables Intel’s XD feature• Enable LTSX – enables/disables Intel’s LTSX feature• VMX – enables/disables Vanderpool Technology, takes effect after reboot• Enable SMX – enables/disables Safer Mode Extension• MSR Lock Control – enables/disables MSR 3Ah, 0E2h, and CS 80h locking. power off cycle is required to

3.9.1 BMC Configuration

• Watchdog Timer Support – enables/disables the Watchdog timer• Watchdog Timer Timeout – enter the number of minutes [2-8] that the system firmware can take to boot the

OS before it takes the timeout action• Watchdog Timer Action – timeout action choices: Hard Reset, Power Down or Power Cycle• Power Cycle Time Support – enables/disables Power Cycle Time command to BMC during the POST• Power Cycle Time – the duration of time that the system power will be powered down during a power cycle

operation initiated by the chassis control command or the watchdog time. Valid values are from 0 to 255 seconds

• Power Button – enables/disables the power button through the BMC• Reset Button – enables/disables the reset button through the BMC• IPv4 Source – selects HX-A24 BMC IP configuration either by DHCP or by Static settings• IPv4 IP Address – configures BMC IPv4 IP Address. 4. Security Menu

• Current TPM Device – displays installed TPM device version• TPM availability – displays current TPM availability for the OS. TPM always presents during the POST• Supervisor Password – when set password is enabled, you will be asked to input a Supervisor Password• Set Supervisor Password – prompts user to set new Supervisor Password

• Break Event - break event parameters control the form• Auto Wake on S5 – auto wake on S5, either by Day of Month or by a fixed time every day

6. Boot Menu

• Boot Type – selects the boot type as “Dual”, “Legacy” or UEFI type• Quick Boot – allows the BIOS to skip certain tests while booting. When enabled, Quick Boot will decrease

booting time• Quiet Boot – enables/disables booting in “Text Mode”• Add Boot Options – sets position for “Shell” and “Removable devices” in the Boot Order• ACPI Selection – selects one of the ACPI standards for booting• USB Boot – enables/disables booting to USB devices• EFI Device First – provides boot order in the “Dual boot” mode.

◦ When enabled, EFI devices will be booted first◦ When disabled, “Legacy” devices will be booted first

• Timeout – the number of seconds that the firmware will wait before booting the original default boot selection

• Automatic Failover – when enabled, if boot to default device fails, it will try to boot the next device in the boot order list; otherwise, it a warning message will pop up

• EFI – EFI Boot Order Settings menu (available in the “UEFI” and “Dual boot” Boot type modes)• Legacy – Legacy Boot Order Settings menu (available in the “Legacy” and “Dual boot” Boot type modes)

Users may change the boot type order by pointing to a selected device type and pressing “+” or “-”

• Floppy Drive – Legacy Boot Type 1, first booting device• Hard Disk Drive – Legacy Boot Type 2, second booting device• CD/DVD-ROM Drive – Legacy Boot Type 3, 3rd booting device• USB – Legacy Boot Type 4, 4th booting device• Others – Legacy Boot Type 5, last booting device

• Exit Saving Changes – exits the Setup Utility, saving all changes to the BIOS• Save Change Without Exit – saves the changes without exiting• Exit Discarding Changes – exits the Setup Utility and discards all changes• Load Optimal Defaults – loads optimal defaults and saves it to the BIOS• Load Custom Defaults – loads custom defaults saved under “Save Custom Defaults”• Save Custom Defaults – saves custom user defaults• Discard Changes – discards any changes made by the user and restores the previous configuration

8. Front Page Graphic User Interface (GUI)The Front Page Graphic User Interface provides additional options for accessing and configuring Secure Boot, bootingfrom the file, setup RAID options under UEFI and Dual boot types. Users may access the Front Page by pressing <ESC> during the POST procedure.

• SCU – enters the Setup Utility• Secure Boot Option – setup and configuration form for the Secure Boot, accessible only within “Dual Boot”

or “UEFI” boot type• Boot from File – the form for booting from a selected file or media when “UEFI” or “Dual Boot” type was

selected• Boot Manager – provides one-time booting from a selected storage device• Device Management – the form for a specific device configuration, useful for RAID setup under “UEFI” or

“Dual Boot” boot type.• Continue – exits the Front Page GUI and continues to previous state

8.1. Boot Manager MenuThe Boot Manager menu allows users to select a specific storage device and proceed to boot. This option may be useful when installing an OS or when performing a one time booting from a USB.

8.2. Secure Boot Option MenuThe Secure Boot Option allows users to setup and configure a Secure Boot. This setup option is available only when “Dual Boot” or “UEFI” boot type option was selected in the Setup Utility, but Secure Boot is in the enabled state only with the UEFI boot type

• Secure Boot Database – displays the current status of the Secure Boot Database• Secure Boot Status – displays the current status of the Secure Boot• User Customized Security – displays the status of whether custom security options were enabled• Select a UEFI file as trusted for execution – allows users to add a specific file to the Secure Boot database

and mark it as trusted.• Enforce Secure Boot – enables/disables Secure Boot enforcement• Erase all Secure Boot Settings – erases all info added to the Secure Boot database• Restore Secure Boot to Factory Settings – provides global reset of the Secure Boot to the factory defaults

9. RAID SetupThe HQ-Box BIOS supports Intel’s RSTe RAID extension. The below HQ-Box models support this feature:

• HQ-Box Combo – RAID 0,1• HQ-Box Storage – RAID 0,1,5,10• HQ-Box Storage/2 – RAID 0,1

To enable the RAID controller set “HDC Configure As” to “RAID” as shown below:

Please ensure the SATA Speed Support is set to 3.0 Gb/s (an Intel’s RSTe drivers limitation in RAID)Depending on the used boot type (“UEFI” or “Legacy”) there are two ways to setup RAID, described in the following chapters.

9.2. UEFI Mode RAID setupTo setup RAID in the “UEFI” boot type mode press <ESC> during the post, and the system will enter the Front Page GUI. Press “Device Management”, and the “Intel RSTe SATA Controller” option will show up:

Then, by entering the option displayed above, users can set up RAID using standard Intel’s UEFI RSTe setup utility, as demonstrated in the next example:
