Human ResouRce/leaRninG & Development Certificate Programs

“I highly recommend the HR Generalist program at UNC Charlotte to those newly entering the HR Field, any HR Professional looking for additional training or a PHR/SPHR/GPHR looking to earn HRCI Credits. This program went beyond information in the textbook showing us real world applications of the content material being covered. The quantitative methods of learning helped show us how the HR world works, should work and how to improve and implement best practices when it is not working.”

“I completed my Learning and Development Certificate and I am VERY IMPRESSED with the level of instructors and UNC Charlotte Continuing Education. It was excellent – very engaging classes. I especially enjoyed the tools used to identify and leverage diversity in work styles and behaviors!”

To earn a Certificate in Human Resources or Learning and Development a student must complete six required courses and two electives. Courses may be taken in any order. Core courses are not required to be taken prior to electives. Students have one year (two semesters) to complete the certificate. We will work with a student if they have special circumstances. Should a student fail to complete the program in two consecutive semesters, he or she will be required to meet the standards of the current program at the time of re-entry. There are no prerequisites required. Substitutions of classes in the certificate are not allowed.

HUMAN RESOURCE GENERALIST CERTIFICATEIf you are a HR professional or wish to enter the field, this program offers skills you can use immediately in the workplace and enhance your professional growth. The program is based on the core competencies found in the HR Certification Institute’s body of knowledge. Participants will gain an overview of the day to day operations and skills required in the HR profession.

LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATEThis program prepares individuals for careers in training, instructional design and/or consulting. It is based on the ASTD (The American Society for Training and Development) Competency Model and the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) of instructional design.

ACHIEVING MULTIPLE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMSIf a student wants to achieve both certificates only six courses are required to complete the second certificate.

pHR/spHR Exam Review

“This class has more than prepared me for the PHR/SPHR exam; the rest is up to me! I have taken many, many classes, but this class was different and creative. I like the way trivia and games were incorporated in the class to make it more fun and interactive! I would recommend this training to ANYONE, and suggest not taking the exam unless you have the appropriate training – your training! Well worth every penny!”

The PHR/SPHR Exam Review program is designed for individuals seeking certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). oRGanization Development Certificate Program

“The Organization Development Certificate Program at UNC Charlotte is great because it focuses on areas specific to developing consulting skills, inter- and intra-personal skills, research skills, and data collection and analysis… all of which are crucial to being successful in OD. This course allows you to learn from the rotating staff, who are experts in the area they instruct, as well as from your classmates. Whether internal or external to an organization, all those in your class can provide valuable insight and information in the various areas through discussion of their experiences.”

“I feel that this course exceeded my expectations in terms of both overall content and skills development. The insights and tools gained from this program have given me a new framework/perspective on my daily and future work activities.” The discipline and practice of organization development have never been more important. Organizations are increasingly focusing on the structures, systems, and processes that impact people and their performance. Organizations are seeking innovative ways to manage change, as concerns about increased competition, productivity, and bottom line issues rapidly emerge.

The Organization Development (OD) Certificate Program covers the fundamentals of OD and the seven Phases of OD Consulting

as currently practiced in successful business organizations. The program is organized around key skill sets and intervention types.

Through the program’s focus on key concepts, work with skill sets central to the discipline, and intensive individual assessment by the teaching

faculty, participants who successfully complete the program will be equipped to enhance their business performance and the quality of the work life of their organizations. The Organization Development Certificate Program has been approved to award 65 HR Certification Institute credits.

This program is only offered in the fall.
