RefrigerantsVirgin Refrigerant Supply & ServicesHRP distributes the comprehensive range of BOC refrigerants, which satisfy the current requirements of the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. In addition to supplying refrigerant, we are also able to offer a full analysis service, for testing the quality of both refrigerants and oils. We also operate a procedure for the reprocessing and/or destruction of recovered refrigerant.

Refrigerant SupplyOur refrigerants are available from all HRP's Service Centres and many of BOC's Tradequip outlets. They are supplied in a variety of conveniently sized containers ranging from 1kg aerosol cans and returnable cylinders up to 1000kg drums. Refrigerant handling courses can be arranged through the HRP Training Centre in Slough Berkshire . Refer to your local HRP Service Centre for details or view our website www.hrponline.co.uk.

How the Reclaim Procedure Works Refrigerant Cylinder Maintenance ChargesCylinders and drums that have been damaged whilst in the customers care will be repaired and the costs charged to the customer. Maintenance charges include the internal cleaning of cylinders and drums that may have contained contaminated material or refrigerant that is outside the purity specification, and all recovery cylinders that have been used as temporary receivers or have been returned without containing sufficient refrigerant. Cylinders that have been marked or painted externally whilst in the customers care will be cleaned at the customers expense. Collect or arrange for delivery of a dedicated recovery cylinder from your local HRP Service Centre. Carry out the recovery work on site and return the cylinder to your local Service Centre or arrange for its collection, together with a completed copy of the Hazardous Waste Consignment Note on which you must specify the type of refrigerant and the weight of refrigerant contained in the cylinder together with the cylinder serial number and the relevant premises code. Completion of this Consignment Note is a legal requirement and cylinders will not be accepted without being accompanied by a correctly completed note.

Health & Safety Warning Refrigerant and Oil AnalysisA full analytical service is available from HRP for customers who may wish to have a detailed analysis of refrigerants or oil prior to recovery from systems or to assess system condition. Dedicated sample kits are available from your local HRP Service Centre. The kits contain a sample container, submission form and sampling instructions. A full report will be issued on the given sample (NB. Analysis will only be carried out on samples that are provided in the specific containers provided within the kits). To avoid illegal releases of refrigerants and to maintain the integrity of the package, the maximum fill weight marked on the recovery/receiver cylinders should not be exceeded.

Reprocessing ServiceCustomers may request a credit for the amount of refrigerant reclaimed. There is a box on the Controlled Waste Transfer Note where this can be requested. It should be noted that the amount reclaimed may differ considerably from the amount recovered due to processing. Credits will apply to refrigerants 22 and 134a that has been recovered in large cylinders only, containing a minimum of 40kg. Refrigerant returned in cylinders containing less than 40kg will be automatically destroyed for which there will be a charge. The destruction of up to 7kg will be covered by the initial maintenance charge; any additional volume will be charged at the standard destruction fee per kg. It should be noted that where contaminated refrigerant has been identified, or where impurity levels are such that reprocessing is not possible HRP will dispose of the quantity involved without prior consultation, and the destruction fee will be charged to the customer for the service. Recovered CFC's using this service will be automatically destroyed and invoiced accordingly.

Refrigerant Recovery & Reclaim ServicesTo avoid cross contamination HRP provides receiver cylinders that are specifically intended for receiving refrigerant from systems that are undergoing major work that requires the system charge to be temporarily removed. This refrigerant can then be returned to the system after work is complete without the risk of introducing foreign matter into the system. The refrigerant analysis service can be used to verify refrigerant quality before reintroduction if required.

Recovery CylindersThe choice of recovery cylinder will depend on the amount of refrigerant to be recovered. There is an 11kg version for which there is an up-front maintenance charge and no additional destruction fee. Alternatively there is a 53kg capacity version for which an up-front fee will also be charged, and dependant on the weight of refrigerant it contains an additional invoice/credit note will be issued. By special arrangement a 900kg capacity version is available, for which a delivery and collection fee will be made together with a separate destruction fee. There will also be an up front charge levied by the Environment Agency for every recovery/receiver cylinder issued.

Refrigerant Reclaim ServiceRefrigerant that has been recovered and is no longer required may be returned to HRP in dedicated recovery cylinders, supplied by HRP, marked by a yellow top, providing that the filling instructions marked on the cylinder have been adhered to and a controlled Waste Consignment Note has been correctly completed. To avoid any additional charges cylinders must be returned within one month of despatch.

Recovered Refrigerant RebatesHRP offer the following rebate rates. These assume 99.5% purity, with the returned cylinders containing maximum return of 53kg and minimum return of 40kg/cylinder. R404A 0.50 per kg (maximum 26.50 per cylinder) R134a 1.25 per kg (maximum of 66.25 per cylinder) R22 2.00 per kg (maximum of 106.00 per cylinder)

Special Reclaim & Return ServiceLarger quantities of refrigerants may be reclaimed for destruction or reconstitution for return to the customer. This service is for quantities in excess of 1 tonne of each refrigerant and is by prior arrangement only. Contact your HRP Service Centre for details of this service.

RefrigerantsRefrigerant Cylinder ChargesIn order to provide and maintain a continuous supply of cylinders, it is necessary to levy rental charges for certain sizes of cylinders. In addition to ensuring a constant flow of cylinders we also take great care in ensuring that all of our cylinders and drums remain in good condition and subject to a regular test discipline. To achieve this they are all inspected every time they are returned and any damage is automatically repaired, the cost of which is passed on to the last user of the cylinder. Up-front maintenance charges are levied for certain types of cylinder which cover the internal cleaning of receiver cylinders every time they are returned or the destruction of reclaimed refrigerant and the preparation of the cylinder for re-issue. Rental charges are avoidable by ensuring that the free loan period is not exceeded and that there is no damage to the cylinders or drums. All medium (midi) and large refrigerant cylinders are issued on an initial free loan period basis. All dumpy and large recovery and receiver cylinders and dumpy refrigerant cylinders are issued against an initial deposit. Full details of rental and maintenance charges are as follows:

Refrigerant Regulations & LabelsThe Ozone Depleting Substances Regulation (ODS Regulation EC 2037/2000)Born out of the Montreal Protocol in 1987 this regulation brought about the banning of CFC's and the development and controlled phase out of HCFC's. as a means of preserving the Ozone layer around the planet. Most of the notable dates and actions specified under this regulation have already passed however the two most important events still to come are as follows:1st January 2010 - Total ban on the sales and use of virgin HCFC's in the maintenance of all refrigeration and air conditioning plant. (R22, R401A, R402A, R402B, R403B, R408A, R409A). All virgin HCFC refrigerant that is in existence after this date must be incinerated. Stock piling is not allowed under this legislation. HRP offers a destruction service for unwanted HCFC's contained in HRP yellow top recovery cylinders. The destruction charge per kg is shown in the price page of this section. 1st January 2015 - Total ban on the sale and use of re-cycled HCFC's in the maintenance of all refrigeration and air conditioning plant. Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases Regulation (F Gas Regulation EC 842/2006)Unlike the ODS regulation which concentrates on the prevention of Ozone Depletion, the F Gas regulation aims to reduce world wide greenhouse gas emissions by 5% in an obligatory period from 2008 to 2012 compared to the base value in 1990. Born out of the Kyoto Protocol in 2005 the F Gas regulation is not about banning refrigerants; it's main focus is the containment and safe recovery of F Gases. Refrigerant containing Fluorine with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) greater than 150 come under this regulation.

Refrigerant Flow Labels

The RulesLeak Detection Frequency: (4th July 2007) - Systems containing more than 3kg - every 12 months (6kg for hermetics). - Systems containing more than 30kg - every 6 months. - Systems containing more than 300kg - every 3 months and must be fitted with a fixed leak detection which must be checked every 12 months. - Once a leak has been repaired a further leak test must be carried out within one month to ensure the repair has been successful. In all cases the accuracy of leak detection devices must be better than 5 grams per year. Ultra violet additives (with compressor manufacturers approval), bubble up sprays and some electronic leak detectors are acceptable; please see the leak detection section of this price list for currently available equipment and detection accuracy. Requirements for Reporting: Records must be kept for each system containing more than 3kg of F Gas. Compliant log sheets are available from all HRP Service Centres. Labelling: (1st April 2008) New integral cabinets and field assembled systems must be properly labelled. F Gas adhesive labels, are available from all HRP Service Centres.
