Getting Started
Believe you can accomplish receiving an award Start early Get organized-divide activities out Get all the stakeholders involved Set your overall goal Remember volunteers (people & things) Start an Excel page with the months of your
campaign Write down your monthly activities as you go Keep aligned with your local OPO
representative Meet with OPO rep. regularly Build from other’s successes and your prior
years Attend in-services/participate in webinars
SEORMC First Steps
Start with the easiest things
Set dates for events first of the year
Book rooms/showcases (displays) first of the year
Get donations (recycle supplies)
Enlist volunteers
Set up meetings with Marketing Department, Department Directors, Medical Staff, OPO rep., etc.
Marketing Set up meeting with Marketing Department
Get commitment for dates of events, obtaining pictures, distributing advertisements, placing letters in hospital and local newspaper/television, etc.
Obtain pens, pins, brochures, posters, calendars, paycheck stuffers, table tents, etc. from OPO then distribute to staff and post throughout building.
Email Blasts
Send received email blasts out promptly
Each one counts for 15 points (in current HRSA campaign)
Create ones to promote Donate Life Month
Send ones to promote events or campaigns your hospital will participate in (such as Hope for the Holidays, National Donate Life Day, Donate Life Ohio Green Chair event, National Blue and Green Day, etc.)
Donate Life Ohio’s Green Chair Event
Use your state’s donation icon (in Ohio we have a Green Chair) to raise awareness for donation
Reserve a spot with OPO early, to do in March or April
Notify Marketing Department early on to get it on their schedule for picture/newsletter
Announce frequently that the Green Chair is coming
Distribute green chair pins (or other Donate Life pins or items) as part of the event
Registration
Decide to do and schedule early your donation stations
Each donation station counts 65 points (in current HRSA campaign)
Identify prime community events as Older Adult Health Fair, Heart Health Fair, Blood Drives, local factories (Colgate Palmolive), etc. If you already have a
table for something else, just add this component to it!
Enlist volunteers to assist (do not have to be an expert)

Education All new associates Nursing associates Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab Walk-thrus with units Brochures/Posters/Table Tents Pens, Pins, Calendars, Badge Holders Vehicle Magnets Nurse Management meetings Physician Offices
Distribute information at their meetings Present or have OPO present to this audience
Department Director meetings Hospital Board meetings Ethics meetings
Community Events
Provide education to groups you or your colleagues already have connections with (personally or professionally):
Support Groups
Churches
Local factories
Schools and high school groups (Nursing and Medical Explorers)
Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts
Showcase (Display)
Reserve early in the year
Utilize yearly theme
Enlist the creative person
Ask for donations from OPO or other group
Recycle materials
Provide game and prize
