Summary

The incumbent collaborates with faculty, administrators, and development colleagues to plan and execute engagement and solicitation strategies. The incumbent seeks to align corporate and foundation interests with university priorities.

Typical Functions

1. Designs, implements, and manages a comprehensive corporate and foundation relations program for the university in order to secure funding which aligns philanthropic interests with university priorities and initiatives.

2. Initiates, promotes, executes, and evaluates initiatives which seek to engage corporations and foundations.

3. Manages a select portfolio of prospective and ongoing corporations and foundations, working with university leadership to determine future fundraising strategies.

4. Works in collaboration with sponsored programs and research to ensure the correct submission reporting process.

5. Serves as a resource to faculty, administrators and development staff who wish to engage corporations and foundations. Assists with presentations and proposals and initiates opportunities for deans, faculty and administrators to interact with prospects.

6. Serves as a liaison between university personnel and corporations and foundations to align interests and explore new avenues for collaboration and giving.

7. Utilizes USU’s prospect management tools to ensure that prospect engagement activities are coordinated with colleagues and support University objectives and strategies.

8. Collaborates with administrators, advancement leadership, faculty and staff to help coordinate fundraising approaches to corporations and foundations, exercising judgement to engage university and advancement leadership at the appropriate times.

9. Cultivates corporate and foundation relationships and solicits gifts by traveling throughout the United States to engage prospects.

10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Knowledge and understanding of current theory and practice in the corporate and foundation

relations and engagement field.2. Ability to develop and execute a comprehensive communications and engagement strategy.3. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal/relationship-building skills.4. Ability to work effectively with faculty, top executives, and community leaders.5. Ability to analyze and interpret marketing data.6. Ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in

conjunction with strategic planning processes.7. Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate,

and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives.8. Database management skills.9. Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex

activities in support of development objectives.10. Ability to plan schedules and meet deadlines.11. Ability to follow University policies and procedures.12. Computer skills, including proficiency with databases and software.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
