For the first division of the service year, all of the Division 11 Key Clubs gathered at Hunter College High School where we were introduced to the new district board. After we were introduced, we discussed future plans and events. We also discussed how to make the 2015-16 service year the best that we could possibly make it. After these discussions, we played human bingo. This was an icebreaker to familiarize our-selves with people of other clubs and to make new friends. I met many people from LaGuardia, Bronx Science, Hunter College High School, and more. We ended the divisonal after the icebreaker.

My name is Richelle Chen and I'm a jun-ior at HSMSE. As a curious person, there are many things that interest me such as the arts, music, literature, and science. I love filling my time with activi-ties under these interests and have hob-bies that include drawing, painting, sing-ing, writing, and reading. What I'm very passionate about is getting to know other people and helping them out. One way I would call myself is a thinker, someone who thinks deeply enough and observes enough to realize that there are other people out there — and they mat-ter.

This is why I joined Key Club, and why I serve as treasurer of my school's Key Club. As treasurer, I collect and the

hours from events, meetings, divisionals, and fundraising. In fundraising I also help plan events and keep track of monetary issues. In the beginning of the year I submit names of new and return-ing members of my school's Key Club. This job is a serious one, and I take it on because I'd like to serve the community. By helping those who put themselves out there to help others, I hope to sup-port the supporters and be a part of this selfless community called Key Club.

Meet your Treasurer

The Leadership Training Conference in Albany was an eye-opening experience. In the past, I had not went to many events, nor met Key Clubbers from di-visonals besides my own. LTC opened my eyes, making me realize that Key Club is a huge community and organiza-tion encompassing and changing the en-tire world with interesting people from all over the world! When we arrived at the hotel in Albany, we first settled in and got familiar with where we would stay. We were able to meet the District Board Members, and they recommended to us many projects, such as the Thirst Project. The Thirst Project is a project to bring clean water all throughout Southern Africa; their goal is to also outreach to all third world countries. After, we had dinner, changed into casual clothing, and attended “Carnival”. “Carnival” was an event where we meet new people. Doing such, I met a person who has the

same birthday as me and met many oth-ers whom I found interesting. Half an hour later, we each went to different workshops. I went to a workshop about how to make meetings more interesting and useful for members. After the work-shop, we stayed up until midnight play-ing Cards of Humanity and Ninja with peo-ple I hadn’t known prior. We were sent to our rooms at 12 and went to sleep for the next day. The next day involved your choice of four workshops; I chose How to be a Bet-ter Webmaster, How to Make Meetings Inter-esting, Improvisation, and Better Communica-tion. After the final workshop we had another presentation, the elections for district board members. We later had dinner and a party. For our third and final day, schools were given awards for their work in Key Club. District 11 won the most awards and people were recognized for all their hard work. There was a touching final good-bye speech and we were dismissed to pack up to go home. LTC was one of the best experiences I have had, as I was able to meet new people, learn great tools to apply to my local Key Club, and learn about the Key Club global community!

The Leadership Training Conference, also known as LTC, took place on March 27-29 at Desmond Hotel Albany, New York and was a Key Club event wherein Key Clubbers from various dis-tricts across New York State came to-gether to vote on the next New York service year’s board. LTC was not all business, however, in fact, we were also encouraged to interact and meet new people, and create lasting friendships. To help with this goal and break the general awkward atmosphere of the attendees, we were invited to attend an activity known as “Play Fair”.

It was an interesting experience and en-couraged all attendees to get to know one another and branch off from one’s own club.

“...recognizing the amazement achievements

across the various New York City districts,

while also displaying the talent of three Key

Clubbers...”

The next two days were filled with vari-ous workshops to either improve our-selves in the club or to help us improve our individual club. We also attended

My name is Anand Karmaker and I am your webmaster! I am a sophomore who loves to live life. Being young makes us think that we are on top of the world, that we will never grow old and are in-vincible to whatever fate throws at us. However, I am well aware that our lives will fly, which is why I live life with eve-rything I have. I consider myself as pas-sionate with everything I do. Many peo-ple say that I am someone who pushes things over the edge, but I would rather describe it as giving everything my all. I am open to new things and putting my-self in uncomfortable positions and situations that I have never experienced before to learn from the challenges. My main creed to life is Carpe Diem, or Seize the Day. Life is a fleeting moment, and I want to capture it with the people around me.

In Key Club, I have created and will con-tinue to maintain our website, hsmsekey-club.weebly.com. I also create the Prezis shown during meetings and handle all technological problems in our club. A webmaster, I allow for easy communica-tions with board members and other key club members through the digital world. Our key clubbers now have access to im-portant information right at their finger-tips.

Meet your Secretary My name is Farhan Ahmed and I am a junior at HSMSE and the Secretary for our Key Club 2015-16 service year. I am very excited to serve my term for the upcoming service year and intend on improving our club to the best of my ability. As a person, I feel that I am very dedicated to anything that I enjoy and am passionate about. I consistently work hard and put a lot of effort for anything that I have interest in. Some of my hob-bies include playing sports, hanging out with friends, and eating food. Who doesn't like eating? I have a great sense of humor and enjoy making others laugh. Making people laugh to me is the easiest way to make friends and to lighten the mood in case anything gets unintentionally serious or awkward. I have established many bonds using such ways.

My goal is to make our club the best it has ever been. The goal of the secretary is to record any information and submit forms, which are essential to the success of Key Club. My goal is to send in these forms on time, or earlier, in order for our club to win awards and gain recog-nition amongst other clubs in our divi-sion. Previously, we have never been ac-knowledged as a large club; however, this will change with the help of myself and the board. Besides my job as the secretary, I plan on helping our presi-dent and the rest of our board to plan events and make our meetings more in-teresting. Doing such is so that our club can expand and create a profound devo-tion for Key Club.

“Caucus Session” where we heard the speeches of aspiring District Board Members for the positions of District Governor and District Secretary. Then, we voted amongst our districts.

Throughout the second day, we attended various meetings including a excellent and resonating presentation by a Thirst Project representative, we learned of the plight of a billion people on the Earth whom do not have access to a fresh clean water source. In continuation, the sitting District Governor commenced the awards ceremony recognizing the amazement achievements across the various New York City districts, while also displaying the talent of three Key Clubbers. The second day ended with a ball where Key Clubbers continued ex-panding their friendships in Key Club

while also having fun.

The final day of LTC began on a bitter-sweet note because of the stepping down of the previous District Board and induction of the new Board. We finished LTC off with a workshop in which we sent letters to veterans and Saint Jude's Hospital. LTC drew to a close with a farewell brunch, enriching the lives of all the Key Clubbers who participated.

On April 18th, Vision Walk took place. Many volunteers, including Key Club members, helped set up tents and sta-tions for people to stop by, before and after the walk. They were stationed at 72nd West Central Park from 7:45 to 12:30 pm. We were able to raise aware-ness for people with seeing disabilities and encouraged the walkers. HSMSE’s Key Club spent the morning at the Fun Booth. We assisted people by showing them how to play the games, such as frisbee, where the players threw the frisbee into shaggy’s mouth. They also played tic-tac-toe, where they threw

three balls into a tic-tac toe set and tried to get three in a row. Another game peo-ple played was where a volunteer would throw a rubber plane-shaped ball to a walker who wore a pair of blinding glasses. The energy during the walk was inspira-tional. There were many people there to support the fund and we were able to raise a lot of money. It being a beautiful day made the event full of excitement and fun, not only for the walkers, but for the volunteers as well.

Meet your Editor My name is Joy Aun and I will be serv-ing as your Editor for the 2015-16 Key Club service year. During my free time, I enjoy writing, exploring new places, be-ing in the presence of others, and ice skating. Some of my hobbies include playing golf, taking pictures with my friends, and watching spoken word po-etry. I believe it is very important to be diverse and open to new things and peo-ple, as every challenge or obstacle put in one’s way will be a learning experience for the better. One key part of myself is my affection to be around other people and my willingness to help anyone who accepts it. Being in Key Club has al-lowed me to express such, while learn-ing how to be passionate towards what I love, helping others.

Although I am only a freshman, I be-lieve that I can succeed in my position as Editor by applying my personal writing knowledge and design experience to bring to you monthly newsletters. As editor, I work alongside the board to keep you updated on Key Club events and activities and put prior experiences at events onto paper for you to treasure. Also, I assist the board with creating new events and bettering one’s personal experience in Key Club. Let’s have a great year filled with encouragement and devotion!

Meet your Vice President Me name is Kacie Luo and I am your Key Club Vice President for the 2015-16 service year. I am currently a sopho-more. Before entering HSMSE, I had no idea what Key Club was. My big sib in-troduced me to Key Club and I have been a key clubber since my freshman year. Last year, I was the secretary, and I realized that I wanted to make a bigger impact on the club, which is why I ran for vice president. Outside of Key Club, I am also involved in the student gov-ernment. Ii was the freshman class president as well as the current sopho-more class president. Being part of our school’s leadership team, along with Sayef and the rest of the board makes

us the ultimate team. As vice president, I hope to improve communication within the board along with members. I also hope to be more involved with the district and Kiwanis family by encouraging members to take part in event committees or going to events in general. I am really excited to see what this service year will bring us.

My name is Sayef Iqbal and I will be serving as your President for the 2015-2016 service year. I am an extremely di-verse person and am open to almost anything. I have a passion in sports, photography, video games (COD and Minecraft), TV shows (Game of Thones and K-Dramas), food, for travelling, and technology. The most important to me are my friends. If someone needs my help, regardless of what I am doing, I will drop it to help them at the best of my capabilities. Three years at HSMSE has really developed me into someone great. Freshmen year, I wasn’t in Key Club, was very unsocial, and was not comfortable around people. Going into sophomore year, I joined Key Club. I realized after going to a few events that my passion in life involved helping oth-ers. It’s something I truly enjoy and am

Meet your President looking to do throughout my life.

I stand here today as your Key Club President. I was previously the editor, and got my position after I was the only one to run. I joined Key Club never in-tending to be a board member, but rather just to work on my volunteer hours. However, being the editor this past year, and attending the Leadership Training Conference has honestly opened my eyes back up and made me realize why I’m doing this. I love helping others and truly believe that I am the best person for this position. I am ex-tremely close to my board members and they have been turning into my second family. Being a senior next year, and my goal is to make Key Club the best club at HSMSE.
