    Your Subscriber Identity Module (SIM)card identi es you to the wirelessnetwork. Your phone will not workwithout the SIM card.To insert the SIM card and battery:

    1. Detach your SIM card.

    2. Insert your ngernail into the sloton the left side of the battery coverand lift the cover off of the phone.

    3. To remove the battery from thephone, pull the tab on the plastic

    lm wrapped over the top of thebattery. Remove and discard theplastic lm.

    4. Slide the SIM cardinto the SIM card slotwith the gold contactsfacing down and thenotched corner facingout of the slot.

    5. Align the gold contactson the battery withthe contacts in thebattery compartment.Lie the battery atand do not angleit as you insert it. Push the battery intoplace and replace thebattery cover.

    Your phone ships with a preinstalledmicroSD memory card where youcan store multimedia les such asvideo clips, music tracks, sound les,images, and messaging data. Manyentertainment applications are alreadyinstalled on the card.NOTE: Do not remove the memory card fromthe phone. You will be unable to use theapplications preinstalled on the card.

    Locate fles on memory cardPictures, videos, and music les aresaved to the memory card by default.

    Charge using a computer

    Plug the small end of the USB cableinto the Sync Connector on the bottomof your phone. Plug the other end of

    the USB cable into a USB port on yourcomputer.

    Charge using a wall outlet

    Plug the small end of the USB cable intothe Sync Connector on the bottom ofyour phone. Plug the other end of theUSB cable into the USB port of the ACadapter. Plug the AC adapter into a walloutlet.

    Reduce the backlight brightness1. From the Home screen, touch and

    hold the active tab and slide rightor left to the Settings tab.

    2. Tap Sound & Display .

    3. Scroll and Tap Backlight .4. Tap Automatically adjust

    backlight to clear the check box.

    5. Under Backlight Adjustment ,touch and slide the Bright sliderto reduce the backlight brightness.

    6. Tap Done .

    Entering text with Swype TM

    Swype provides a faster and easier wayto enter text. Input any word with onecontinuous nger motion across the on-screen keyboard.

    Enter text1. From a text entry screen, tap

    the up arrow to the right of theKeyboard icon.

    2. Tap Swype .3. To enter the word cat , touch

    the letter c and slide your ngerthrough all the letters of the word.When you reach the letter t,release your nger.

    4. If there are multiple word options,tap the desired word from thedisplayed list. Tap the Arrow iconto see additional words.

    WIRElEss COnTROlsEasily turn data connections on or offand change settings with the wirelesscontrols. To access the wirelesscontrols from the Home screen, touchand hold the active tab and slide right

    or left to the Settings tab. Tap Wirelesscontrols .Phone Tap to change phone settings. Tapthe Off/On icon to turn the phonefunctionality on or off.

    Bluetooth Tap to search for and connect to aBluetooth device. Tap the Off/On iconto turn Bluetooth on or off.

    Wi-FiTap to search for and connect to a Wi-Finetwork. Tap the Off/On icon to turnWi-Fi on or off.

    Microsoft Direct Push Tap the Off/On icon to automaticallyretrieve Outlook mail as it arrives ormanually retrieve Outlook e-mail.

    Data Connection Tap to set up a data connection. Tap theOff/On icon to connect or disconnectthe active data connection.

    Make a call1. From the Home screen, press

    COnTaCTsAbout Mobile Backup

    Mobile Backup is a free service that letsyou store contact information on yourphone and on www.my.t-mobile.com .

    You can manage contacts on yourphone or on the Web and the changesare synchronized. With Mobile Backup,you dont have to worry about losingyour contact information if you lose

    your phone.

    You may choose to not use this featurebut your address book may be backedup in order to deliver certain services.See the FAQ section on www.my.t-mobile.com for details.

    Set up Mobile Backup

    NOTE: Do not use Mobile Backup if yousynchronize data with other applicationssuch as ActiveSync and Microsoft MyPhone.

    1. Tap Start .

    2. Tap Mobile Backup .

    3. Tap Yes to store your contacts onwww.my.t-mobile.com .

    4. Tap Yes to copy contacts from theSIM card.

    1. From the Home screen,press the Send key.

    Voicemail

    To access your voicemail inbox from theHome screen, press the Send key andthen touch and hold the 1 button on thekeypad.To set up your voicemail, follow thetutorial.To reset the password to the last fourdigits of your phone number, enter#793# and press the Send key.

    Visual VoicemailWith Visual Voicemail you can play andreplay messages in any order, savevoice messages to your phone, choosehow you want to respond to messages,share special audio messages usinge-mail, and create personalizedgreetings.

    NOTE: You can sync contacts, calendar,and tasks with My Phone only if your phonedoes not have a sync partnership with anExchange Server.

    Synchronize using a USB cable

    Using the provided USB cable, youcan synchronize your corporatee-mail, calendar, contacts, andtasks between your phone and yourcomputer. Before synchronizing, installMicrosoft ActiveSync 4.5 or higheron your computer. ActiveSync is asynchronization program that lets you:

    n Synchronize your corporatee-mail, calendar, tasks, contacts,and Internet Explorer favorites.

    Install ActiveSync on your computer

    1. Insert the CD that came with yourphone into your computers CD-ROM drive.

    2. If not already installed on yourcomputer, follow the instructionson the CD to install ActiveSyncand Microsoft Outlook.

    Connect the phone to your computer

    1. Plug the USB cable into the SyncConnector port on the bottom ofyour phone.

    2. Plug the other end into a USB porton your computer.

    3. Follow the ActiveSync instructionson your computer to synchronizedata between your phone andcomputer.

    Synchronize wirelessly

    You can synchronize your e-mail,calendar, contacts, and tasks directlywith your companys Exchange serverwirelessly.NOTE: Make sure to remove the USB cable

    before attempting to synchronize wirelessly.

    1. Tap Start .

    2. Tap Tools .

    3. Tap ActiveSync .

    4. Tap set up your phone to syncwith it .

    5. Enter your e-mail address and tapNext .

    6. Enter your username, password,and domain and tap Next .

    bluETOOTh

    Your phone comes with Bluetoothtechnology, which is a wireless technologythat enables a data connection betweenyour phone and a Bluetooth wirelessheadset and other Bluetooth devices (soldseparately).

    Prepare Bluetooth headset

    To pair your phone with a Bluetoothheadset, make sure that your headset isfully charged and that you put the headsetinto pairing mode. See your Bluetoothheadsets manual for more information.

    Turn on Bluetooth and pair withheadset

    Your phone supports three text modes:n Predictive (XT9 ) mode analyzes

    the keys you tap and attempts tonish the word you are entering.

    Words are also predicted basedon words you entered previously.n ABC mode does not predict the

    word you are entering.n Number/Symbol mode allows you

    to enter numbers and symbols.

    Change text moden While on a text entry screen, tap

    to toggle between XT9 and ABC mode.

    n Tap to enter Number/ Symbolmode and tap to return to ABC/ XT9 mode.
