Text Analysis• In a figure of speech, words are used in an

imaginative way to communicate meaning beyond their strict definition. Figures of speech include:

• Similes: use the word like or as to compare two unlike things. (The frozen lake is like glass.)

• Metaphors: make comparisons without the words like or as. (All the world is a stage.)

Directions: copy the charts to record similes and metaphors from each poem. For each comparison, write line numbers, what is being described, what it is being compared to, and whether the comparison is a simile or metaphor. An example has been done

for you.
