Full 90 minute fire rating - Tested and approvedto BS 476 Pt21 1987.Acoustically tested to BS EN ISO 140-3 1995 and BS EN ISO 140-6 1998.The CLICK FLAMEGUARD system is a means of installing lowvoltage and mains downlighters with integral fire andacoustic properties. All of these products have beenindependently tested and approved to meet therequirements of BS 476 Pt21 1987 and BS EN ISO 140-3 1995and BS EN ISO 140-6 1998. They satisfy all relevant sectionsof current Building Regulations.

The 'FLAMEGUARD System' products are manufactured withthe fire and acoustic retentive qualities incorporated. TheFLAMEGUARD System has been applied initially to the CLICKrange of low voltage and mains GU10 downlightersillustrated here.

Forget about costly and difficult to install fire hoods.FLAMEGUARD downlighters are all you need for a neat andsafe lighting solution.

All FLAMEGUARD downlighters supplied complete withaluminium reflector lamp. Please refer to page 12 forreplacement lamp information.

Low voltage and mains voltage downlighters are established as one of the most popular methods of illuminating

domestic and commercial premises. The quality of light output together with their compact size and flush fitting will

almost certainly ensure their ongoing popularity.

One of the drawbacks of the use of such downlighters is that the cut-outs made to accommodate the downlighter

compromise the integrity of the fire seal of the ceiling material in the event of a fire.

The FlameGuard System found in CLICK downlighters has been designed

to effectively restore the fire integrity of such ceilings as well as providing an

acoustic barrier.

The FlameGuard System

provides additional protection

against (i) the spread of fire and (ii)

the pervasion of noise through cut-

outs made for the installation of

conventional downlighters.

The introduction of FlameGuard protected luminaires virtually does away

with the need for costly and cumbersome fire hoods and other peripheral

methods of protecting against the spread of fire through downlighter cut-outs.

True ‘Fix and Forget’ protection. Once installed all FlameGuard protected

downlighters offer long term protection, immediately and guaranteed. There is

no need for secondary inspection to ensure that the fire seal is in place. It is an

integral part of the downlighter and requires no further action over and above

the installation of the downlighter.

The FlameGuard System has already been incorporated into the CLICK

ranges of low voltage and mains GU10 downlighters. This is a comprehensive

range of fixed, adjustable and eyeball downlighters available in a selection of

decorative colour finishes, designed to complement most interior designs.

Rigid steel bodyconstruction acts assupplementary fire andnoise barrier as well asproviding intrinsic rigidityand durability.

These heavy duty fixingsprings allow the luminaireto be clamped securely tothe ceiling providing apermanent and secureinstallation. No additionalfixings or supports arerequired.

A circular disc ofFlameGuard intumescentmaterial is located in the capof the downlighter, sealing thecap of the fitting in the eventof a fire.

Provides a physical barrier torestrict the expansion of theintumescent seal downwardsinto the downlighter body.The expanding seal is forcedupwards into the ventilationholes in the top of thedownlighter, restoring anairtight seal in the event offire.

Ceramic lampholder foreither GU5.3 low voltagelamp or GU10 mains voltagelamp.

A ring of FlameGuardintumescent material is fittedaround the circumference of thedownlighter body which will sealthe ceiling cut-out in the event ofa fire.

All of the features outlined on this page relate to all FlameGuard luminaires regardlessof whether they are the fixed, adjustable or eyeball versions of the fittings.

In’tu’mes’cent Dictionary definition – Swelling up, expanding

How does it work? The FlameGuard intumescent seal, when exposed to fire, forms a densecarbon char which separates and insulates the substrate from the heat of thefire. The expanded seal eliminates the flow of air through the void and therebystarves the fire of vital elements for combustion.

All FlameGuard System downlighters carry the ‘F Mark’. Suitable for mounting intonormally flammable material, i.e. wood.

Technical Specifications

FlameGuard System downlighters have been fully tested and approved as fire andacoustic rated fittings according to the following criteria:

Fire tested to full 90 minute rating by ChilternInternational Fire and approved to BS 476 Part 21 1987.

Fire & Acoustic testing carried out using plasterboard, timber joistand tongue and groove floor construction.

Acoustically tested by the Building Test Centre toBS EN ISO 140-3 and BS EN ISO 140-6: 1998

Installation

Simplicity and ease of installation have been the bywords in designing the FlameGuard downlighters.Installation is as simple as with conventional downlighters. No special tools. No special preparation.The compact design of the FlameGuard System incorporated into these downlighters allowsinstallation into even the tightest of spaces. Unlike the addition of fire hoods fitted to the rear of thedownlighter, the FlameGuard system fittings are installed in the same way as most conventionaldownlighters. Potential savings are therefore available in both obviating the cost of fire hoods and theadditional installation work associated with them.

Lamp Information

The FlameGuard Systemdownlighters allow installationinto plasterboard ceilingsthicknesses of up to 36mm.The integrity of the fire resistantand acoustic properties of theceiling material are restoredafter installation.

FlameGuard luminaires have been tested to a full 90 minute fire rating using up to 50W 12V and 240V50mm lamps. All fittings are supplied with lamp selected from one of the following types:

This slim profile compact fluorescent fitting provides adiscreet, modern, attractive and energy efficient lightsource. Its attractive design options make it suitable forboth domestic and commercial installations. See below forlens options. With a recess depth of only 65mm this fittingcan be installed in the tightest of spaces.

The luminaire is supplied complete with its own controlgear which is connected with a simple plug and socketarrangement thus facilitating cleaning and maintenancerequirements.

The decorative metal bezel surround of the frosted glasslens provides a quality finish to the installation. Siliconeseals provide IP44 rating which makes the fitting suitablefor installation in Bath/Shower rooms Zone 2.

As a further option, the Drop Glass Lens offers a differentprofile to the fitting providing additional design choices.

CF005 Flush GU10 Fluorescent FittingUntil now, low energy lamps have been obtrusive, bulky andunsightly. Our new miniature compact fluorescent fittingemploys the very latest in low energy cfl lamp technology toprovide a flush fitted downlighter which can be installed asa direct replacement or substitute for a standard 50mm lowvoltage or mains downlighter.

This fitting is designed exclusively for use with the lowenergy GU10 lamp and cannot be used with standardGZ10/GU10 lamps. It therefore satisfies the requirement ofPart L of the 2002 Building Regulations in relation to theinstallation of energy efficient luminaires.

This flush fitted water resistant downlighter can be fittedwith a selection of decorative glass and die cast lens ringsto suit all décors. Efficient silicone seal prevents wateringress to make this fitting suitable for indoor or outdooruse, using standard GZ10 halogen or low energy compactfluorescent lamp.
