PRESIDENTS REPORT

For those that decided to attend the Aroha Cruise it was a great day, heaps of cars to drool over, including a number of Z cars. We didn’t get to the drive in movie but Pete assured us it was a great night. For those of us that thought the weather was warming up, think again. Started crawling around under the Mk 1 Zephyr to clean up underneath the other night thinking it was a bit cool to find snow on Mt Pirongia the next morning. Good thing we are not planning on finishing car until early next year for the convention at this rate (maybe I could have talked Ross into doing this?). I thought finding bits for Z cars was difficult, finding parts for a V8 set up when you are not familiar with these is worse. Finally sick of chasing for parts, chucked everything in the boot and had a pleasant visit with a wrecker by the name of “Slappy” at the Mount. One look by his expert eyes and away home we came with everything we needed, be laying rubber soon. Don’t forget to get your names to Rod & Liz for the xmas lunch and the Cambridge swap meet is around the corner so save your pennies. Xmas raffle is happening so please donate to a good cause, proceeds towards the Z car convention to assist those attending. Word from the Z car Auckland club is that they already have strong numbers registered so shaping up to be another good Easter event. And we have to finally admit that “Betty” our Mk1 Consul broke down returning from Te Aroha, as for that smart ass Holden owner, I’ve got your number. We are selling up as well so if looking for some Man Caves, 300m3 of shedding is waiting for new owners. Take care on the roads, Mike.

MIDDLE OF THE ROAD

First Christmas Joke of the Season

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates."In honor of this holy season," Saint Peter said, "You must each possess something that

symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven." The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle," he said. "You may pass through the pearly gates," Saint Peter said. The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells." Saint Peter said, "You may pass through the pearly gates." The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties. St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "'And just what do those symbolize?" The man replied, "These are Carol's."

Fact: WD-40 WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement, 40th attempt". WD-40 was invented in 1953 and was first used by Convair to protect the outer skin of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion. Another random WD-40 fact is that WD-40 dissolves cocaine.

What's the difference between chopped beef and pea soup? Everyone can chop beef, but not everyone can pea soup!

Our Luckiest Day PART 2

By Spencer Jamieson

The drama unfolds as we had spotted a Mk2 Zephyr Ute in this semi junkyard out in the Queeensland sticks. We park and walk along the road frontage to the small front gate. It looks like there is no one home but we just don’t go walking onto peoples properties without asking. We kiwis have got class. As we go through the gate I am whistling, talking loudly, coughing, just to let people know that we are coming to their front door. Up the steps and I knock loudly. No response. All this time I have my eyes peeled. I am looking for signs of a kennel, chains, bones, etc. This is true survival in the “outback”. All these properties have guard dogs and as I have worked in the interior, this property would be no exception. We knock again, no reply, so I says to Bryan “we will go past the ute and I will take a photo then head out the main gate”. At this time I have a sixth sense that all may not be well. We had to go past some sheds and as we did so “IT STEPPED OUT”. Here was the biggest, meanest looking “Junkyard” guard dog you have ever seen. With what has just confronted us I felt more nervous than a newborn calf on wet concrete. It was a “DOBERMAN”. Strueth, these dogs, because of their height, go for the throat or the crown jewels. I have been nitten twice by Queensland cattle dogs and struck at by a king brown snake. Cattle dogs and snake bite the calves or ankles. Im OK by that. The Crown Jewels are another matter. How could I send Bryan back to his lovely wife Maria, without Crown Jewels. For myself, one who has taken the oath of celibacy (Mon to Fri only) and a confirmed bachelor, deep down I have the feeling that our horses have just dead heated for ninth at Trentham. I glance towards Bryan. He originates from the British Isles, “Welsh stock”,

Page 7

and has the “stiff upper lip look”, or “stoic”, stance. Py korry, I bet if this mutt comes for us that look will change. I know we are in deep deep trouble. Fan me brow. I says to Bryan, “lower your head, no eye contact and very slowly walk sideways making sure your back is not showing to the dog”. We slowly move off with “Satin” still eyeballing us. I know its only a matter of seconds before he makes his move. I’m feeling as about as plurry cheerful as a Fijian in a freezing chamber.

We inch our way towards the main gate and as we pass the ute I thought to myself “what the hell” so I slowly raised my camera and take a photo of the ute… We might as well go down fighting. The

mutt is just standing there watching us, knowing he is in complete control. This, from one of these dogs, I just cant believe. We get to the main gate, I reach over, unlock the latch and both of us are through the gate quicker than a rat up a drainpipe. Whew the relief, how did we ever get away with that. The very least he should have done was “bail” us up. I looked back between two cars and I spotted something. A patch of “Red”. Here was the possible answer. Both Bryan and I had “Blue” Ford Hamilton Zephyr Club shirts on. Im sure these were our saving grace because this dog recognised quality when he saw it. This poor fellow had stood absolutely no chance at all…

XMAS FUNCTION I have been checking out some local eateries, where we can have our Xmas function at and I think I have found just the place. It was great to get everyone's positive feed back on this venue that we have found and a show of hands as to who would like to attend a Xmas Luncheon.

The venue is the Gostiona Licensed Restaurant & Cafe, CNR of Rukuhia & Ohaupo Rd ( 3 mins from Glenview) Hamilton. We would have the venue to our selves, but would need a minimum of 50 people (show of hands from the Raglan run gave us a great start of 38). The date would be the 5th Dec, time to start this fantastic buffet would be 12.00pm, meal served 12:30pm and we would need to clear the restaurant by 4pm, cost per adult $29.00, $16.00 per child under 12 and under 5years are free. They are prepared to put on this special luncheon at a time that they would normally be closed (what lovely people). We could arrange to meet up that night for those that wish to stay over, my back deck would hold a few the choice is yours, BBQ can be standing by

for evening nibbles?

So now I need your help! Please, Please, Please and did I

say PLEASE send me an email of confirmation with numbers ( adults and children & their ages) by the 25th October. I will check on max numbers that they can seat, so first in best dressed. As you are aware December is not an easy time to arrange a Xmas function so your HELP will be very much appreciated. The sooner the better please and then I can confirm a visit from the man in RED , I wonder who that could be?

So far only ten people have confirmed by email that they will be coming,( thank you ) this is not enough to have this venue for our Xmas function we need a minimum of 50 people. So if you would like to come please let me know by the 14th Nov, or we will not be having a Xmas function!
