Human Body Systems

Page 2: Human body systems

Nervous System

• Control and communication network of the body.

• Detects internal & external stimuli through your five senses

Page 3: Human body systems

Parts of the Nervous System

• Central Nervous System– Brain– Spinal Cord

• Peripheral Nervous System– All other parts of the nervous

system– Carries impulses from CNS to

body

Page 4: Human body systems

Endocrine System

• Regulates hormones• Think of that moment when you get

excited before a big event….that is your endocrine system releasing hormones!

Page 5: Human body systems

Excretory System

• Removes wastes from the body• Urinary tract–Kidney–Bladder

Page 6: Human body systems

Integumentary System

• Skin – main organ• Protection• Prevents dehydration• Controls body temperature

Page 7: Human body systems

Muscular System

• Enable movement• Skeletal muscle – attached to bones;

moves the body– Voluntary muscle – we can decide when

we want to move them• Smooth muscle – found in internal

organs and blood vessels– Involuntary muscles – we have no control

over their movements

Page 8: Human body systems

• Cardiac muscle– Heart– Made to not fatigue (get tired)

Page 9: Human body systems

Skeletal System

• Provides structure and support• Bones• Joints• Cartilage

Page 10: Human body systems

Digestive System• Breaks down food into biomolecules that

cells can use• Consists of:–Mouth– Esophagus– Small intestine–Pancreas– Liver– Large intestine

Page 11: Human body systems

Circulatory System

• Transport system• Consists of:– Heart– Arteries (away)– Veins (to)

Page 12: Human body systems

Respiratory System

• Movement of air in and out of the lungs• Consists of:– Lungs– Trachea– Bronchial tubes– Diaphragm

Page 13: Human body systems

Immune System

• Helps fight diseases • Composed of– White blood cells– Lymph nodes

Page 14: Human body systems

Reproductive System

• Function is reproduction of offspring• Male– Sperm– Testes– Testosterone

• Female– Egg– Uterus– Estrogen

4. A person drives a car up to a railroad crossing and stops. The driver is startled by the sound of a train blowing its whistle. The driver’s heart rate immediately increases, and the driver is more alert. Which body systems are most involved in causing the driver’s heart rate and alertness to increase as a result of sudden fright?

A Skeletal and muscularB Nervous and endocrineC Circulatory and excretoryD Respiratory and integumentary

Answer: B

5. Which structure in the upper arm isresponsible for raising the lower arm?A 1B 2C 3D 4

In order to raise it, it must be attached, so its not 1 or 2.

4 is a bone not a muscle, so its answer:

system

7. Nutrients from digested food move from the digestive system directly into the —

Endocine system does not transport anything. So . . .

Excretory system gets rid of waste CO2 and H2O, not food. So . .

Integumentary system holds organs and tissues in place. So. . . The Circulatory System

carries everything to every cell, so it is . .

A excretory systemB immune systemC respiratory systemD integumentary system

Increased respiration gets rid of excess CO2
