Medicins san Frontieres has treated at least 133 emergency patients at Timergara Hospital, and Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar has asked for blood donations of all types. The Pakistan military is conducting rescues and assessing damages. There are reports of landslides blocking the Karakorum highway, and landslides in Neelum and Hunza Valleys. Situation Overview

Background: A powerful earthquake struck northern Afghanistan on October 26 at 1:39pm local time. Tremors were felt in Pakistan, northern India, and Tajikistan. The magnitude 7.5 quake was centred in the mountainous Hindu Kush region, 75km (46 miles) south of Faizabad, according to the US Geological Survey. (source) Buildings were evacuated in the capitals of all three countries, and communications were disrupted in many areas. Initial reports speak of people killed in Afghanistan as well as in Pakistan. Officials said the quake happened at a depth of 212km. The magnitude was initially put at 7.7 but later downgraded. ○ Kunar officials say 100s of homes destroyed in the province. At least 32 people dead and 83 injured. Hundreds of cattle dead across province. (source)

○ Officials in Kunar province say at least 14 people have been killed in Kunar province and 40 injured. More than 200 homes have been destroyed or damaged. (source)

● Badakhshan Province: ○ Unconfirmed reports of severe damage & deaths in Badakshan's Kishim district.

○ Mansehra District: Around 20 police & 12 laborers stuck at Basel area. They will be evacuated by helicopter tomorrow as the weather clears. (source)

○ According to Pakistan’s military: Monday's quake has killed 123 and wounded 956 in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. (source) Army helicopters and C-130 planes have launched damage assessment/rescue work (source) The majority of deaths occurred in the Malakand district. (source)

○ Chitral, near the Afghan border, was reportedly badly hit. There have been landslides, extensive damage to infrastructure and a lot of old houses have been completely damaged. (source)
