Environmental Education Student and Teacher Network Day
Wednesday 5th April , Awabakal Environmental Education Centre, 9.30am-12.30pm.
Join us for the Environmental Education Student and Teacher Network Day.
The event will include:
How to conduct a water or biodiversity audit in your school
Student activity to build environmental leadership capacity
Examples of fieldwork activities that teachers can use in
school
Information about ClimateCam
Leadership opportunities for students to present their
schools environmental projects
This is a FREE workshop available to teachers and up to four students from government schools in Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port Stephens Cessnock and the Hunter. Morning Tea will be provided. You are warmly invited to attend the reinvigorated Hunter Schools Environmental Network meeting. Awabakal and Wetlands EECs wish to assist teachers and support staff, as well as interested members of your school community from the Hunter area. The network will meet once a term and aims to share, inspire, showcase school initiatives and to collaborate on environmental and sustainability ideas and issues in schools. Planet Savers 2017 Planet Savers is an exciting event for Stage 2 and 3 students to celebrate World Environment Day.
This event is presented by a team of enthusiastic and inspiring experts leading activities that teach
students to be green in fun and interesting ways.
Planet Savers is a two hour event where students rotate through five hands-on activities based on the
themes of water, energy, waste and biodiversity.
DATE: THURSDAY JUNE 1ST (9.30am-11.30am or 12.30pm-2.30pm)

Wetlands EEC
Stage 2 Geography– Different and Similar Environments
This program focuses on acquiring geographical information by observing and collecting data through fieldwork, using maps and spatial technologies. Students explore the climate, vegetation and animals of the Hunter Wetlands. They exam-ine the importance of natural resources to the environment, animals and people and learn about the ways people value environments, including the Awabakal people.

Early Stage 1 & Stage 1 Geography– People live in
Places/ People and Places
Students will conduct a geographical investigation to under-stand the ways in which the Awabakal Aboriginal people interacted with this location. Students will also gather evidence of weather and seasons while examining the use and care of this important place.

participate in? ClimateCam is for you! ClimateCam is a program for schools to improve the
sustainability of their school. Schools earn stars on a range of sustainability topics. Schools can apply for
stars at any time. For more information visit the Wetlands Environmental
Education Centre website and look for the ClimateCam for schools tab. Please contact the Wetlands EEC
to participate in this program or to apply for stars.
