JOIN US IN SUNDAY SCHOOL—TODAY! NEW Sunday School Class—Today’s topic is How does Scripture Help with Today’s Issues? Can we take Bible passages written 2000 years ago and use them today, without giving attention to their original context? Next Sunday, February 24, we welcome David Vick to lead a lesson on How Spiritual Gifts Impact Your Role in the Life of the Church. All are welcome to join us in the Family Life Center to share in discussion over coffee and refreshments. Membership Class Series—All those who have joined the church over the past year and those who may be contemplating membership at Kern are invited to join Pastor Dan Taylor in Room 3 (Fellowship Hall) for this class. WINTER JAM 2019—FEBRUARY 22 Our youth will be attending Winter Jam 2019 (Christian Concert event) at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville this Friday, February 22. Those going should meet in the church Narthex at 4:30 pm. (Permission form and reservations for transportation should have already been turned in.) The cost is $15 cash at the door (scholarships available upon request). We’ll be returning to the church late and will call parents with an e.t.a. Contact Alisha, if you have questions. FEBRUARY YOUTH SCHEDULE Today— Sunday School, 10:00 am Feb. 20— Impact Youth, 6:30 pm Feb. 22— Winter Jan 2019 ($15 at door for 10 bands) Feb. 24— Sunday School, 10:00 am Feb. 27— Impact Youth, 6:30 pm

NEW DATE AND TIME FOR CAPS MEETINGS Due to schedule conflicts, and with the sincere hope of getting more people involved in attending the monthly Children's Activity Planners meetings, we are changing the meeting date/time to the 4th Sunday of every month from 1:30-2:30 pm in the Parlor. The next meeting is Sunday, February 24. CAPs is a creative group of young-at-heart adults who gather to plan up to six children's events per year. We are always in need of like-minded adults who would like to help us make Kern a fun and welcoming place for families by planning family-friendly events. We hope to see

you there! Please contact Jennifer Shell (257-8902, [email protected]) for more information.

BLANKETS+—FEEL THE LOVE OF A WARM BLANKET Throughout February, United Methodist Women are responding to Jesus’ call to be neighbors to those in need by sponsoring Blankets+. A small donation (checks payable to Kern UMC, memo: Blankets+) will enable Church World Service to provide blankets and other assistance in areas of the world affected by war, famine, earthquake, and other natural disasters. Additionally, new or gently used blankets will be collected and taken locally to the Ecumenical Storehouse. Please place blankets in boxes provided near the Narthex coat closet. Thank you for your love (and blankets!).

GIRLFRIENDS IN CHRIST—SHOPPING DAY—SATURDAY, MARCH 30 Girlfriends in Christ are going to The Island in Pigeon Forge. We will meet at Kern and leave at 10:45 am via carpool. Once at The Island we can have lunch and shop (or whatever you want to do). If anyone would like to play a game at The Escape Game, you can book it yourself online at theescapegame.com. We have signed up for the 2:40 pm game “Mission Mars”. There are only six slots still available for this game, so please sign up soon if you want to play.

(Spaces will fill up quickly, as others, not in our group, can also book into this game.) The cost is $34.99 plus tax. The game lasts one hour, and we will need to check in 15 minutes prior to the game. Please contact Sandy Bradshaw via text (865-405-7509), if you plan to go on this trip, and if you can be a driver. We can arrange transportation based on how long people plan to stay. A MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT BRENDA CARROLL February 23, our first day of General Conference is being devoted to prayer. Please pray for the churches in the Tennessee Valley to experience a renewed energy and mission. March 3 at 3:00pm, the Tennessee Valley District will meet at Powell United Methodist Church for worship and Conference follow-up from our delegation. The delegation will send us a video message, plus one of the delegation members will be present with us. MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE KERN PANCAKE/RUMMAGE AND PLANT SALE Kern's annual Pancake Breakfast, Rummage and Plant Sale will be held on Sat., May 4. Please remember us when cleaning out your basements, garages and closets! Please, NO CLOTHES or ELECTRONICS. This includes tvs, printers, CPU, VCR, etc. Individuals need to take those items to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Blockhouse Valley Rd. WE CAN'T TAKE THEM FOR YOU. Thank you!
