Whether you’re looking for a quiet, lakeside picnic spot, or a pavilion fit to host a family reunion, there are facilities available to meet your needs. Shelters, picnic tables and barbecue grills make fun in the sun a breeze. If indoor accommodations are more to your liking, the Environmental Discovery Center at Indian Springs Metropark, Thomas S. Welsh Activity Center at Lake St. Clair Metropark and Sunset Terrace Banquet Tent at Stony Creek Metropark all offer rentable space, out of the elements for your next get-together.
Paved and unpaved hike/bike trails, water facilities such as slides, spray zones and swimming pools, as well as interpretive centers and outdoor play structures provide open recreational enjoyment. For fitness seekers, clinics such as Beginner Kayaking, Yoga and Zumba on the Beach, and Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga at Lake St. Clair Metropark offer healthy opportunities for all ages and abilities.
Make this summer a time to reconnect, build long lasting memories and strengthen ties with family and friends by enjoying the many facilities, festivals, programs and special events offered at the Metroparks.
In addition to quality facilities, the Metroparks have a jam-packed summer schedule filled with great family events, including fireworks displays in June and July, as well as festivities such as Children’s Day Fun and Games, the 13th Annual Bash at the Beach Car Show and Cruzin’ the Park. History buffs should mark their calendars for Colonial Kensington and the Voyageur Encampment, which offer hands-on experiences for all ages, and those interested in enjoying a day with their four-legged friends won’t want to miss Dog Day of Summer! For farm related fun, the Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Show and Dairy Festival, are great educational opportunities for multiple generations to share.
We hope to see you at the parks!

REMEMBER, YOU’RE NOT JUSTwashing your car
Practicing good car care means helping protect our lakes and streams. Storm drains found in our streets and roadside ditches lead to our lakes and streams. So, if dirty water from washing our cars washes into the storm drain, it pollutes our local waterways. Likewise, if your vehicle leaks motor fluids on the street or driveway, that too, can wash into the storm drain and pollute our local waterways.
HERE’S A FEW TIPS TO PRACTICE:• Car-wash facilities treat their dirty water
before discharging it to our lakes and streams. So, take your car to a car wash.
• If you wash your car at home, consider washing it on the lawn. Or, if you can’t use the lawn, try to direct the dirty water towards the lawn and away from the storm drain.
• Reduce the amount of soap you use or wash your car with plain water.
The Metroparks Storm Water Management Plan is available for review on our website.
Questions and comments regarding the management plan may be addressed to
Mike Brahm-Henkel, Asset Manager.
