Effects
• Anxious holidaymakers and local residents fleeing the storm jammed roads.
• Over a million people were evacuated from Key Biscayne, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
• Floyd was more than 600 miles in diameter and was the biggest storm to hit Florida since Hurricane Andrew in 1992 (that left 26 dead, 160,000 homeless and caused $25billion of damage).
• Floyd was estimated to be three times as strong as Andrew.
