GENERALThe V3350A-D/V3351A,C/V3450A-D/V3451A,C 2-WayFlanged Iron Body Valves are used in heating or coolingsystems for two-position or modulating control of steam,water, or glycol solutions to 50 percent. These valvesrequire a Q5001 Linkage and control motor, an ML6421A/B,ML6425A/B, ML7421A/B, or ML7425A/B Direct-Coupled
Actuator, or an MP953 Pneumatic Actuator to position thevalve. The valve bodies are available in both direct acting(DAstem up to open) and reverse acting (RAstem downto open). All 2-1/2 and 3 inch valves include a bonnet adapterfor compatibility with all applicable electric and pneumaticactuators.

IMPORTANT
Valve sizing is important for correct systemoperation. Undersized valves do not have sufficientcapacity at maximum load. Oversized valves caninitiate cycling and the seat and throttling plug can bedamaged because of the restricted opening. Somevariables that must be determined are:Medium (steam, water, glycol solution 50 percent
maximum) to be controlled.Maximum temperature and pressure of the medium at the
valve.Pressure differential that exists across the valve under
maximum load conditions.
Maximum capacity the valve must deliver.Maximum line pressure differential the valve actuator
must close against.Table 8 provides allowable close-off pressures forvalves with pneumatic actuators. Table 9 providesallowable close-off pressures for valves with electricactuators.
INSTALLATION
When Installing this Product...1. Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow them
could damage the product or cause a hazardouscondition.
2. Check the ratings given in the instructions and on the
product to make sure the product is suitable for yourapplication.
3. Installer must be a trained, experienced servicetechnician.
4. After installation is complete, check out productoperation as provided in these instructions.
IMPORTANT
1. Do not lift the valve by holding the stem.2. Before installing the valve, raise and lower the valve
stem to make sure that the valve stem operatesfreely. Impaired stem operation can indicate that thestem was bent by rough handling. This condition canrequire replacing the valve.
3. Protect the stem from damage due to bending or
scratching.4. Do not mount the valve with the stem pointed lower
than horizontal.5. Mount the valve with the flow arrow pointed in the
direction of flow through the valve.6. Mount the valve between aligned pipes. Mounting
the valve on pipes that are not aligned causesleakage at the valve-to-pipe connection.
7. Release system pressure and drain the valve pipesection so the medium (water or glycol solution) doesnot leak out of the valve body during installation.
8. Be sure to allow enough room for installation andservice. Clearance for valve installation is dependenon actuator size and the valve pipe size.
LocationSelect a location where the valve and actuator are accessible
Allow sufficient space for servicing the valve and actuator.See Fig. 3for valve body dimensions. See Fig. 5 through 9 fodimensions and installation clearances for the actuator.
Mounting ValveSee Fig. 4for typical installation:
1. Install the valve so the flow follows the direction of thearrow indicated on the valve body identification tag.
2. Install the valve so the actuator is above the valve bodyInstall the valve in any position between vertical andhorizontal. Do not install the valve with the stem belowhorizontal or upside down.
3. Use companion flanges with the same number of boltholes and dimensions as the valve to be installed.
4. Use a gasket material recommended for the medium tobe handled.
5. Use mounting bolts long enough so the nuts can usethe full length of the nut threads. Use bolts 1/8-in.smaller than bolt hole diameter to allow clearance forinstalling. See Fig. 3.

Mounting ActuatorFor information on mounting, refer to the actuators ProductData Sheet. Fig. 6through 9illustrate typical actuators usedwith this valve. Actuator dimensions as well as installationclearances are provided. It is important to have the correctactuator available for the installation.
CheckoutInstructions for operating the valve actuator, see the specificactuators Product Data Sheet. Operate the control systemand check valve operation to determine that the valve stempositions the valve smoothly through full stroke withoutbinding.
The actuator selected provides the force to position the valvestem and plug. For electric spring-return and pneumaticactuators, the actuator provides normally closed or normallyopen operation on electric power or pneumatic pressurefailure, depending on the valve/actuator combination selected.

SERVICE
GeneralFig. 10shows a direct acting valve in the fully open or fullyflowing position and the reverse acting valve in the fully closedor zero flow position. The actuator provides the necessaryforce to position and hold the stem and plug in the correctposition, depending on the control requirements.
For electric control, a spring return actuator returns the valveto its normal position (open or closed, depending on theactuator and valve selected) in the event of a power failure.Non-spring return actuators hold the last commandedposition.
For pneumatic control, the actuator returns the valve to itsnormal position (open or closed, depending on the actuatorand valve selected) in the event of a loss of control airpressure.
Service Parts
Stem and Bonnet Adapter:205699A fits all 2-1/2 and 3 in. valves. Provides compatibility
with all Honeywell electric and pneumatic actuators. Setscrews included.
Valve Body Packing Kit:
NOTE: PACKING CARTRIDGE FITS ALL VALVES,EITHER CLASS 125 OR CLASS 250.208638 O-Ring Packing for water.208639 Teflon Packing for steam.
