Diabetes: not “just a shot” nor “simple math”

Diabetes is a silent disease. You can’t always see it, unless you’re looking. And you definitely can’t always hear it.
![Page 5: HXR 2016: Tracking the Body: Devices, Consumer Genomics, and Sensors- Dana Lewis](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081604/58e77e711a28abe7528b4e37/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Device A? Doesn’t talk to Device B. You can’t hear the alarms. And you can’t get your data from any of the devices (easily).

1. Louder alarms2. Remote monitoring3. Data from all diabetes devices4. Real-time predictive alerts5. Personalized recommendations
What is #DIYPS?
![Page 8: HXR 2016: Tracking the Body: Devices, Consumer Genomics, and Sensors- Dana Lewis](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081604/58e77e711a28abe7528b4e37/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
And we realized we could do even more.

Rocket science. (Not rocket science.)

#OpenAPS is an open and transparent effort to
make safe and effective basic Artificial Pancreas System (APS) technology widely available to reduce
the burden of Type 1 diabetes.

No, #OpenAPS is not FDA approved.#OpenAPS is (n=1)*45+.
(“You don’t trip and end up with an artificial pancreas.”)

● Most people already test our medical devices to make sure we understand how they work.
● It’s even more important to self-test tools that haven’t been through formal organizational QA..and when they’re not FDA approved.
● This model of distributed QA by users has a long and successful history in open-source communities.

"Implants are the most personal of personal devices.
They should answer first to us, then to our doctor and finally, maybe, to a particular vendor in the cloud.
Right now, that sequence is reversed.”
