hybride clouds door bart veldhuis
DESCRIPTION

Definition of Hybrid cloud
A hybrid cloud is a composition of two or more clouds
(on-site private, on-site community, off-site private, off-
site community or public) that remain as distinct entities
but are bound together by standardized or
proprietary technology that enables data and
application portability.
Composition:
• not separate
• designed
Two or more:
• not just one
Bound together:
• Not loosely
coupled
Data and application portability:
• Data and apps flow from one to
the other
Standardized:
• Not special
What makes a hybrid cloud
A cloud Another cloud
• No connectivity between the clouds• No data mobility• No workload mobility• No single pane of glass management• Multiple service catalogs
Just multiple clouds

Pro’s & cons
Pro’s
• Elasticity & Scalability
• Easy onboarding once
configured
• Future proof
Con’s
• Private cloud as first step
difficult
• IT not involved in external
cloud purchases
• Hybrid cloud needs CMP
• Lock-down with CSP
Security caveats
• Access control in the
public cloud
• Lack of governance &
control
• Stretched networks
results in stretched
security boundaries
• Data placement
outside allowed
teritorries
Lessons learned
• Pick your CSP based on your own
technology stack
• Connect with low latency | high bandwidth
networks
• Do not spread apps across clouds if they
are not cloud ready
• Design for link-failure
