This hose specification sheet has been prepared with great care in order to provide you with all the information you need. Writtenadvice must be obtained from Codan Rubber before using any hose with untested media or before using in applications notcovered in the product data sheet. Codan Rubber recommends regular maintenance, care and inspection of hoses before use.Hoses should be replaced if any physical damage is seen, especially to the cover of the hose or in the area around the couplings. Allproducts must be stored in accordance with ISO 2230:2002 (Storage

of vulcanised Rubber Products). The individual conditions of an application will affect the life time of each product. Thereforeplease ensure that resistance to chemicals and cleaning procedures in our written product information is complied with. CodanRubber’s warranty is void in the event of misuse such as excessive bending, crushing, stretching, use with incorrect media or use inenvironments outside the hose specification. Codan 3514 - SAE 100 R6 / EN 854 - 1TEBlack, high-temperature hydraulic hose with fabric insert ideal for hydraulic oils, diesel oil, etc. For use as return hose in hydraulic systems. Codan 3006 Return HoseBlack, flexible, anti-static pressure hose for oil. A classic oil hose for all-round industrial use, e.g. diesel, paraffin, grease and other oil-based media. Hose installations guidelinesProper hose installation is essential to maximise hose life and following these basic guidelines when installing a hose assembly will insure a longer time between servicing and the need to replace the hose.

Where appropriate secure the hose to the equipment in such a way as to protect the hose assembly from being damaged. Following the framework of the equipment is generally best. Try to secure the hose away from points of chafing or wear. If this is not possible, use an appropriate protective cover.

When routing, do not exceed the minimum bend radius of the hose. If hoses of various ID’s are bundled together, the largest ID hose will dictate the minimum bend radius. If the hose pivots, rotates, flexes or reciprocates during operation, be sure to allow enough length for free movement at all points in the cycle. Even in a stationary application, be sure to allow for length change during pressure cycles.

Where extreme heat cannot be avoided, especially when conveying flammable substances, always use fire sleeving.

Hose is a good compensator in multi-plane flexing applications, but it will fail quickly if subjected to torquing or twisting. In these applications route the hose so as to avoid torque or twist, or use a rotary joint or fitting. Always avoid torquing the hose assembly when attaching the second end.

If the hose is subject to frequent handling, be sure to do so safely and appropriately. Observe minimum bend radius guidelines. Abuse is the number one cause of shortened hose life and hose failure. When replacing a failed hose, be sure it was properly installed in the first place. Look for areas of wear and kinks. Never assume the hose was properly installed to begin with.

DEFINITIONS

Bend Radius: The radius of a bent section of hose, measured to the innermost surface of the curved portion.

Minimum Bend Radius: The maximum amount to which a hose can be bent before causing kinking or damage. Follow the formula below to determine the minimum length of hose to make the angle of bend required.

Note: The bend should take effect over the entire minimum length, not just a portion of it.

GENERAL FORMULA

Angle of bend ÷ 360 x 2π r = minimum length of hose to make bend

r = given bend radius of hose π = approximately 3.14

Example: Static 90º bend with Codan 3304 with 12.7 mm ID

r = 330 mm angle of bend = 90º 90 ÷ 360 x 2 x 3.14 x 330 = 518.1 mm

518.1 mm is the minimum length to make a 90º bend without damage. For hose installations in a moving assembly, please multiply length by 1.2

Note: The minimum bend radius listed in the catalogue is for static bend at ambient temperature. Flexible bending, especially at elevated temperatures, will increase the minimum bend radius accordingly.

Please use this positioning guide when using two angled couplings on the same hose.

1) Position the coupling closest to you vertically at 0º 2) Twist the coupling furthest away from you clockwise to the desired position in segments of 45º (degrees).

Please note one combination which can be misunderstood; the 90º versus 270º are both essentially positioned at 90º, but are pointing in either direction.

EXAMPLE A - 6 mm IDWe look for the pressure drop for a hose with ID 6 mm with a flow rate of 10 l/min.The pressure drop is approx. 880 mb bar over 1 meter. To find the pressure drop for a 50 m hose, multiply with 50:880mb x 50 = 44000 mb (44.0 Bars)

EXAMPLE B - 25 mm IDWe look for the pressure drop for a hose with ID 25 mm with a flow rate of 300 l/min.The pressure drop is approx. 475 mb bar over 1 meter. To find the pressure drop for a 50 m hose, multiply with 50:475mb x 50 = 23750 mb (23.75 Bars)

PLEASE NOTE The stated pressure drop values increase for reeled hoses depending on the hose and reel diameter and the flow speed by approx. 25 to 40%.Hoses with rough bore tubes are subject to increasingly higher pressure drops.

DETERMINE THE INNER DIAMETER OF A HOSE ‘ID’

EXAMPLE A The flow rate ‘Q’ is 140 litres per minute (I/min). The flow velocity ‘V’ is not to exceed 5 metres per second (m/s) for safety reasons.SOLUTION The dotted line between Q and V gives the correct ID of the hose, in this case 25 mm.

EXAMPLE B The flow rate ‘Q’ is 11 litres per minute (I/min). The flow velocity ‘V’ is not to exceed 7 metres per second (m/s) for safety reasons.SOLUTION The dotted line between Q and V gives the correct ID of the hose, in this case 6 mm,
