Connecting WAND withSmartphone via Bluetooth –HydrawiseThe X2 Controller with the WAND WiFi device allows for Wi-Fi setup over Bluetoothconnection via smartphone. Bluetooth is a wireless technology that is used for exchangingdata between fixed and mobile devices over short distances. This is a useful way to easilycommunicate when Wi-Fi is not available at the location of the controller.

NOTE: Bluetooth Wi-Fi Tether is only enabled on WAND modules with firmware 6.15 orlater and X2 controller with firmware 1.04 or later.

Checking X2 Controller: Press the left arrow, right arrow, and PRG buttonssimultaneously, then release. The latest firmware will be displayed.

Checking WAND: Select the mobile MENU icon ( )on the upper left-hand side of thescreen. If using a computer (PC), select the MENU icon ( ) on the upper right-hand sideof the screen. Select CONTROLLER SETTINGS. View the software version next to the (

) icon.

1. Navigate to the Hydrawise SETUP wizard on the Hydrawise app or Hydrawise.com[1] website.

2. Select your X2 CONTROLLER.3. Click CONTROLLER SETTINGS in the left menu tab.4. Click the CONNECT TO Wi-Fi button.5. Select the BLUETOOTH button on the app or website.6. Select the [WAND] HunterX2XXX device matching the last 3 digits of the module's

serial number.7. Enter the 6-digit code on the X2 controller display and click the Pair button in the app. 8. A list of nearby Wi-Fi networks will appear. Select your wireless network and click the

CONNECT button.9. Enter your Wi-Fi password and click the CONTINUE button.

10. Once connected, the WAND LED will turn solid green •, the word ONLINE with asolid Wi-Fi icon will appear on the controller LCD. The Hydrawise app will show a'Connection Successful' message.

11. Click the CONTINUE button to continue set irrigation schedules.

Connecting WAND with iPhone(Wi-Fi Direct Setup - SAP Mode)

1. Navigate to the Hydrawise SETUP wizard on the Hydrawise app or Hydrawise.com[1] website.

2. Select your X2 CONTROLLER.

3. Click CONTROLLER SETTINGS in the left menu tab.

4. Click the CONNECT TO Wi-Fi button.

5. Select the Wi-Fi Direct (SAP Mode) button on the app or website.

NOTE: In some cases, establishing a connection may be an issue, so you may have to re-start using this process.

6. Press the BLACK button on the WAND twice for the Wi-Fi setup.

7. WAND's Wi-Fi status LED will blink AMBER • twice per second. SAP will appear on thecontroller LCD.

8. Select the CONTINUE WHEN LED IS BLINKING TWICE button.

Choose your device below and continue with the setup steps.

iPhones or iPads:

You should be seeing the CONNECT TO THE HUNTER X2 WIFI screen. If not, go to theHydrawise app or Hydrawise.com [1] website, navigate to CONTROLLER SETTINGS, clickthe CONNECT TO WIFI button, select the SAP (SoftAP) button, click the Continue whenLED is blinking twice button.

1. Go to the Wi-Fi settings on your iPhone or iPad device.2. Select the HUNTERX2XXX Wi-Fi network name matching the

last 3 CHARACTERS of your WAND serial number.3. Disable MOBILE DATA [2] only on your device when prompted. 4. Return to the Hydrawise app and click the RE-SCAN button.5. A list of nearby Wi-Fi networks will appear. Select your wireless network and click

the CONNECT button.6. Enter your Wi-Fi password and click the CONTINUE button.

If your password is longer than 19 characters, you will need to update your WANDfirmware before continuing. See article [3].

7. Enable MOBILE DATA [2] on your smartphone when prompted. WAND will connect toyour Wi-Fi network.

8. Once connected, the WAND LED will turn solid green •, the word ONLINE with asolid Wi-Fi icon will appear on the controller LCD. The Hydrawise app will show a'Connection Successful' message.

9. Click the CONTINUE button to continue set irrigation schedules.

IMPORTANT: The WAND's Wi-Fi pairing process will automatically stop after 10 minutes ifno action is taken. Press the WAND button twice to restart the Wi-Fi Direct Setup processor press the WAND button until “SAP” appears on the controller LCD.

10. Return to the Hydrawise app and click the RESCAN button.

11. A list of nearby Wi-Fi networks will appear. Select your wireless network and click theCONNECT button.

12. Enter your Wi-Fi password and click the CONNECT button.

Connecting WAND Using a RouterWPS Button (PBC Setup)Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a feature supplied with many routers. It is designed tomake the process of connecting to a secure wireless network from a computer or otherdevices much easier.

NOTE: The button is usually located on the front or rear of the router labeled WPS. Referto the manufacture of the router for the specific location. You will be asked for this in STEP8.

1. Navigate to the Hydrawise setup wizard on the Hydrawise app or Hydrawise.com[1] website.

2. Select the controller X2 model if you have more than one controller. See link [5] for moredetails.

3. Click CONTROLLER SETTINGS in the left menu tab. For mobile devices, this is locatedby clicking the hamburger icon in the upper left side.

4. Click the green CONNECT TO WiFi button.

5. Select the PBC (WPS) button on the app or website.

6. Press the black button on the WAND three times for Wi-Fi setup.

7. WAND's Wi-Fi status LED will blink amber three times per second. PBC will appear on the controller LCD. Select the CONTINUE WHEN LED IS BLINKING THREE TIMES button.

8. Press the WPS button on your Wi-Fi router.

Once successfully connected, the WAND LED will turn solid green , the word ONLINE witha solid Wi-Fi icon will appear on the controller LCD. Return to the Hydrawise website to setirrigation schedules.

IMPORTANT: The WAND's WPS router pairing process will automatically stop after 2minutes if no action is taken. Press the WAND button three times to restart Connect withRouter (WPS Setup) or press WAND button until “PBC” appears on the controller LCD.

Connecting WAND Using Laptop& Desktop Computers (SAP

Setup)Wi-Fi Direct Setup (SAP mode) uses the Wi-Fi feature on your computer to connect yourcontroller to the Wi-Fi network.

IMPORTANT: Before WAND can connect to Wi-Fi, the WAND's serial number must beadded to your Hydrawise account.

1. Navigate to the Hydrawise setup wizard on the Hydrawise app or Hydrawise.com[1] website.

2. Select your X2 CONTROLLER.3. Click CONTROLLER SETTINGS in the left menu tab.4. Click the CONNECT TO Wi-Fi button on Hydrawise.5. Select the SOFTAP (SAP) button on Hydrawise.6. Press the BLACK button on the WAND twice for Wi-Fi setup.

7. WAND's Wi-Fi status LED will blink amber twice per second. SAP will appear on thecontroller LCD.

8. Select the CONTINUE WHEN LED IS BLINKING TWICE button on Hydrawise.9. Choose your device below and continue with the setup steps.

10. You should be seeing the 'Connect to the Hunter X2 Wi-Fi' screen. If not, go toHydrawise, navigate to CONTROLLER SETTINGS, click the CONNECT TO Wi-Fi button, select the SAP (SoftAP) button, click the CONTINUE WHEN LED ISBLINKING TWICE button.

11. Go to the Wi-Fi SETTINGS on your computer.12. Select the HunterX2XXX Wi-Fi network name matching the last 3 characters of your

WAND serial number.13. A new window will appear or launch a web browser on your device and

14. Select or enter your Wi-Fi network name and password of your router.15. Click the CONNECT button to join to your network. WAND will connect to your Wi-Fi

network16. Once successfully connected, the WAND LED will turn solid GREEN , the word

ONLINE with a solid Wi-Fi icon will appear on the controller LCD.17. Return to the Hydrawise website to set irrigation schedules.

WAND - TroubleshootingIf you are having issues connecting the WAND device to the X2 controller, please checkthe following symptoms and solutions in the chart below.

Problem Solution(s)

Incorrect Serial number Verify the serial number matches thenumber on the WAND device sticker priorto installation.

Hydrawise Android App is unable to findWAND.

Check if X2 LCD shows SAP andreconnect. To place in SAP mode, pressthe WAND Wi-Fi button twice. Find thebutton located here [7]. Be within the 10’ (3m) range of the controller.Smartphone or computer does not show

the WAND Wi-Fi network.

Hydrawise App cannot communicatewith the WAND.

Check if X2 LCD shows SAP andreconnect. To place in SAP mode, pressthe WAND Wi-Fi button twice. Find thebutton located here [7].Connect to the WAND Wi-Fi network in yourdevice’s settings. Disable mobile data.

Hydrawise App does not list yourwireless network.

Test if the controller location is in range ofyour Wi-Fi networkCheck if smartphone or computer isconnected to the WAND Wi-Fi Network

The app is showing 'Connecting…' formore than 30 seconds after you’veentered your wireless password.

Verify the serial number in controllersettings [8] matches the number on theWAND device prior to installation.

The controller may be too far away from theWi-Fi router for a reliable connection. Moveeither device closer or use a repeater.Verify the correct wireless network nameand password. Re-connect.The router may be offline from the internet.

The app appears to lag or not updateafter completing setup or displays anerror message.

Make sure your mobile internet or mobiledata is enabled

Unable to exit the wizard. Make sure your mobile internet or mobiledata is enabled

Firmware Update Codes

1. UPd8A - When online, the WAND LED will turn red ● and UPd8A will appear on thecontroller upgrading to the latest X2 Controller firmware.

2. UPd8b - When online, the WAND LED will turn amber ● and UPd8b will appear on thecontroller upgrading to the latest Hydrawise firmware.

3. UPd8C - When online, the WAND LED will turn green ● and UPd8C will appear on thecontroller upgrading to the latest Wi-Fi firmware.

Trouble Connecting?

1. Be sure your device remains connected to the HunterX2XXX Wi-Fi network during theSAP setup. Device Wi-Fi may automatically connect back to your saved networks

2. NO INTERNET popup may appear. Select CONTINUE WITHOUT INTERNET toremain connected to WAND.

3. Forget the saved HunterX2XXX Wi-Fi network in your device's Wi-Fi settings, thenrestart the Wi-Fi setup. Uninstall WAND, re-insert, and finally restart the Wi-Fi setup.

Solid LED Color:

● WAND is waiting for the user to add Wi-Fi credentials.

● The controller is Online and connected to the Hydrawise server.

● Incorrect Wi-Fi password entered or Wi-Fi network lost.

1. Be in range of Wi-Fi signals and verify with a smartphone.2. Verify the correct Wi-Fi network name and password used.3. Verify the Wi-Fi network is using 2.4 GHz and not 5 GHz.

Flashing LED Color:

● 1 blink, WAND is in Bluetooth pairing mode.● 2 blinks, WAND is in SAP (Soft Access Point) mode.● 3 blinks, WAND is in Pbc, router-supported (WPS) mode.
