LÓPEZ GUTIÉRREZ Geological Survey of Spain, Valencia, Spain The intensive rate of groundwater exploitation in several areas of “Los Arenales” aquifer (Duero Basin, Spain) has originated a remarkable descent of water heads. Consecuently, Spanish government (MAPA) began several studies based on artificial superficial recharge in order to minimize environmental impacts in two areas: Santiuste Basin and Carracillo Region The stages of the employed methodology studied so as to determine the most adequate recharge method and facilities design in each area and the volume of water involved are described downwards: IMPROVEMENT OF AQUIFERS STRUCTURE AND HYDROGEOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR KNOWLEDGE: 1- 3D palaeogeography reconstruction of the wind-sand detrital aquifer with geoelectrical prospecting works (147 vertical electrical logs in Santiuste and 607 in Carracillo), with respectively 14 and 34 investigation core borings parametric boreholes drilled. 2- Hydraulic in situ (wells) or laboratory tests: 10 and 18 pumping tests, 6 and 12 in situ infiltration tests, 16 and 18 in laboratory 3- There were inventories of 234 and 452 water points in order to update the hydrogeological mapping. 4- Measurements of the current river flows at 2 and 19 stations. 5-,Monitoring nets have been designed composed by 41 and 111 water points with the aim of controlling the heads evolution of the aquifer 6- Hydrochemical nets of 28 and 48 points and Artificial Recharge nets with 6 and 24 piezometers located on both sides of the recharge ditch. 7- Integration of data in a mathematical model (Modflow), that will be operative
