    INTRODUCTIONArticle 46 of the Indian Constitution lays down a

    directive principle of State Policy. It provides that, thestate shall promote with special care the education andeconomic interest of Scheduled caste and scheduledtribes, and shall protect them from social injusticesand all form of exploitation.

    Article 275 provides for the grant of special funds bythe Union Government to the State Government forpromoting the welfare of the Scheduled Tribe and forproviding them with better administration.

    The sample of the study consisted of 650 Ninth grade

    students from twenty eight (28) high schools in thedistrict of Mayurbhanj, Odisha.

    FINDINGS The Mean Emotional and Social Maturity Scale scores

    of Non-Tribal Girls is more higher than that of theTribal Girls.

    The Mean Emotional and Social Maturity Scale scoresof Rural Non-Tribal Girls is more higher than that ofthe Rural Tribal Girls.

    The Mean Emotional and Social Maturity Scale scoresof Urban Tribal Girls are Similar.
