"Legend Mode" is the core of the game. Select ascenario and a character, then leap into action!In order to progress through the story, you willneed to complete the assigned mission objectives,and make sure to strengthen your characters asyou go.

The game is mainly controlled using buttons, butcertain controls can be performed using the touchscreen on the Wii U GamePad.

In every game mode, your progress will beautomatically saved when you are victorious in abattle.

Saving During a Battle

Press / during gameplay to bring up the pausescreen, then select "Save Progress" to save yourprogress up to that point. To restart from thatpoint on your next play, select "Resume" from theSelect Mode screen. (This function is not availablein Adventure mode.) 6

In Legend Mode and Free Mode, choose whichscenario to play and which warrior to use from theSelect Scenario screen.

Heart Containers and Pieces ofHeart

Heart Container - increases your maximumhealth by one heart.

Piece of Heart - collect four to create a HeartContainer.Playing as the warrior displayed next to therelevant item icon gives you a chance to obtain itduring the course of the battle.

Recommended Warriors

A warrior with the icon displayed by his or herportrait is considered a Recommended Warrior,which means that he or she will be at anadvantage in that particular scenario.Each scenario has a Recommended Element( ), and Recommended Warriors can wield aweapon belonging to that element, thus dealingmore damage to enemies in that particular battle.

Winning a battle in Legend Mode will often unlockaccess to further scenarios. Scenarios completedin Legend Mode become available in Free Mode aswell.

Selecting the warrior or weapon type displayednext to these icons will cause a Gold Skulltula toappear on the battlefield if certain conditions arefulfilled.

Gold Skulltulas

There are said to be 100 Gold Skulltulas inthe world.Every time you defeat one, you will receivean illustration piece. Collect all the pieces ofa single illustration in the Gallery ( )to be rewarded further.

♦ From the pre-battle screen, or from the pause screen(accessible by pressing / during gameplay), youcan go to "Warrior Info" to see hints regarding thecriteria for making a Gold Skulltula appear.

Moving

Push / in any direction to move in thatdirection. Hold to break into a sprint and coverground more quickly.

Evading

Press / to evade enemy attacks. While moving,keep the button held down to break into a sprintimmediately afterwards.

Press / to guard against attacks from the front.You can still move while guarding.

Guarding

♦ You can evade while moving.

♦ Guarding also adjusts the camera to face ahead.♦ There are certain particularly powerful attacks which

♦ These controls apply to both healing potions andattacking items (such as bombs, bow and arrowsetc.).

Using Items

Select an item with /, then press / to useit. The number of items available to you willincrease as you progress through the game.

Locking On

When there is a powerfulenemy in your vicinity,pressing or / locks onto that enemy and keeps thecamera fixed on them (themarker above an enemy'shead will turn red when it isbeing targeted). Pressing thebutton again releases thetarget lock.When there are severalpowerful enemies close by,you can first lock on to oneof them and then use toswitch between them.

Basic Attacks

Use the regular /(wave Wii Remote) attack andstrong / attack buttons in differentcombinations to perform the various attackingtechniques at your warriors' disposal.

♦ The exact nature of each technique will varydepending on the warrior and weapon being used.

♦ It is possible to increase the number of techniquesavailable by crafting badges.

Special Attacks

When your Special Attack gauge is full, press /to unleash a devastating Special Attack!

♦ Fill up your Special Attack gauge by defeatingenemies and collecting Force Fragments.

Defeating an enemy or breakinga pot will occasionally reveal anitem power-up! Collect thepower-up for a significantincrease in the strength of youritem attacks - but be aware thatthe power-up only lasts for ashort while.

Power Up Your Item Attacks!

Weak Point Smash

Powerful enemies willperform certain attacks thatleave them exposed to animmediate counter-attack.When this happens, a WeakPoint gauge will bedisplayed above theenemy's head. Hitting theenemy at this time willdeplete their Weak Pointgauge, and reducing itcompletely will result in asuper-powerful attack!

Press / while under the effects of Focus Spiritto completely consume your Magic gauge andunleash a Focus Spirit Attack against the enemiesin front of you. Powerful enemies hit with thisattack will be knocked down and become open toa Weak Point counter-attack.

Use / to switch between an overview of thewhole map and a more detailed view of yourvicinity.

♦ Allies are displayed in blue, enemies in red and otherforces in yellow.

This is only displayed when you are inside a keep.In an enemy keep, the meter will be displayed inred and will gradually deplete as you defeat moreenemies within that keep. Once a battle starts, you will be tasked withvarious missions.Complete each mission in turn to move closer toclaiming overall victory in the battle!

Completing Missions

Taking Outposts and Keeps

Enemy troops spawn from enemy keeps andoutposts.Proactively capturing these keeps and outposts willgive you and your allies a great advantage inbattle.

Aiding Your Allies

If one of your allies is in trouble, try to help themout before they are defeated. Successfully come tothe ally's aid, and their health will be fullyrestored.You should also bear in mind that if an alliedcommander is forced to flee the field of battle, or ifthe Allied Base is lost to the enemy, then you maylose the battle as a result.

Fulfilling the VictoryConditions

You will win the battle if you fulfil the victoryconditions.Victory means that you get to keep any weaponsand materials that you obtained during the battle.

Giant enemies have lots of health and highattack power, making them difficult to defeat.However, some giant enemies are susceptibleto attack from a particular item.When facing one of these giant enemies,have a look through your inventory of itemsto see if you have something that might dothe trick.

Outposts continuously spawnreinforcements onto thebattlefield. Defeat the enemyoutpost captain to take controlof that particular outpost foryour side. Conversely, if anallied outpost captain isdefeated, then you will lose thatoutpost to the enemy.

Keeps

Enemy keeps will also spawnenemy reinforcements, and willblock the advance of yourforces.In order to capture an enemykeep, you will first need todefeat enough enemies withinthat keep to reduce its KeepMeter (displayed on-screenbeneath the mini map ) tozero.Once the Keep Meter is empty, aKeep Boss will appear. Defeatthe Keep Boss to take control ofthe keep for your side!

Every weapon has an elemental property, andsome of its attacks will be boosted by an elementaleffect.

Weapon Elements

Selecting a warrior bearing a weapon of theRecommended Element for a particular scenariowill allow you to inflict more damage on theenemies in that scenario.Warriors marked with the icon on the SelectScenario screen can use weapons imbued with theRecommended Element and are consideredRecommended Warriors.

Recommended Elements forDifferent Scenarios

Fire

An enemy sent flying by a fireattack will explode when it hitsthe ground, causing damage toother nearby enemies.

WaterAn enemy hit by a water attackwill continue to take damage overa set period of time.

Lightning

Lightning attacks inflict extradamage on enemies who are inmid-air.

Light

Light attacks inflict more andmore damage as you unleashcontinuous attacks on largenumbers of enemies.

Dark

Dark attacks inflict more and moredamage as you unleashcontinuous attacks against asingle enemy.

Some weapons are imbued with skills.Skills come in many different varieties, granting arange of benefits on the battlefield, such asmaking certain attacks stronger.

Transferring Skills

At the Smithy in the Bazaar, weapons can befused, transferring a skill from one weapon toanother (as long as the weapons are of the sametype). 18

Defeating enemies will slowly fill up yourexperience gauge. When the gauge is full, thewarrior will level up, which means increased attackstrength and maximum health.Additionally, levelling up mid-battle will fullyrestore the warrior's health, as well as filling theSpecial Attack gauge.

A warrior's maximum health increases at certainlevels. It can also be increased further bycollecting Heart Containers and Pieces of Heart.

Heart Containers and Piecesof Heart

The warriors that can acquire the Heart Containersor Pieces of Heart in a given scenario arepredetermined. You can see which warriors canacquire them on the Select Scenario screen( ), or the world map screen in AdventureMode. ( )

Some weapons you find might come with skills thatgive them special effects, useful for battle( ). By fusing weapons, you can transferskills from one weapon to another.

1. Select weapon to enhanceChoose a weapon you want to improve with a skill.You can only choose weapons with one or moreempty skill boxes.2. Select skill sourceChoose a weapon to take a skill from. You canonly choose weapons with skills attached.3. FuseFuse the two weapons. The weapon used as theskill source will be consumed in the process.

Warriors who craft badges will be rewarded withvarious effects which improve their battlecapabilities.

Creating Badges

Select the warrior you want to create a badge for,then enter the Bazaar ( ). Select the BadgeMarket to craft badges using materials andRupees.

To gather the materials necessary for craftingbadges, defeat enemies and pick up theMaterial Pouches which they leave behind.Win the battle in which you collected them,and they will be yours!The material you get from a pouch variesdepending on which enemy you defeated toget it. What's more, there's a small chancethe same enemy might drop a rarer, morevaluable material.

Create mixtures in the Apothecary to receivespecial beneficial effects during the next battle youfight. The effects of a single mixture will last untilthe end of the battle.

In addition to the mixtures you can create,you can also gain access to potions, whichwill allow you to regain health at any pointduring a battle.To use a potion, you must first craft the"Empty Bottle I" badge in the Badge Market.Additionally, crafting the "Empty Bottle II"and "Empty Bottle III" badges increases thenumber of times you can use potions in onebattle. Your Empty Bottles will be automaticallyrefilled after every battle, so there's no needto pay for top-ups.

What Adventure?

Your aim in Adventure Mode is to defeat the DarkRuler and save Hyrule Kingdom.With each battle you win, you will unlock newmaps to explore. Use Item Cards to search a mapsquare and you might discover a new route,powerful weapon or something else entirely.Travel the maps, battling and searching as you go,and before you know it, you'll be the Hero ofHyrule!

You can choose to play as any of the warriors youhave unlocked in Legend Mode.However, some maps restrict which warriors orweapons are available to you.Using Legend Mode and Free Mode to train manydifferent warriors is the key to success inAdventure Mode!

Available Warriors

Types of Battles

The battles in Adventure Mode are divided into twotypes:

Challenge BattlesThese are small battles, fought with just the onewarrior you control. Fight to complete thedisplayed mission objective!

Adventure BattlesThese are large-scale battles, fought together withyour allies. Capture keeps and push the battlefrontforward until your enemies are thoroughlydefeated.
