Level 1 (Getting Started with GIS)Estimated time: 20 HoursSoftware Required: ArcGIS V10

For those new to GIS, and have experience with Windows-based software, level 1 course will include fundamental GIS concepts and skills for general using by ArcGIS maps and tools.

A. Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS):• What is a GIS• Raster and vector• ArcGIS Applications• Data frame• Data View and Layout View• Symbology• MXD• Saving a layer file• Data formats• Metadata

B. Georefrence:• What is Georeferencing?

• Coordinate systems• Map projections• Georeferencing toolbar• Viewing projection information

C. Create Geodatabase:• Geodatabase basics (feature classes, feature datasets, table)• Creating a new geodatabase• Creating the geodatabase structure• Creating tables• Fields types of table• Import Schema from other geodatabase.

D. Digitizing and Editing:• Editor tool bar• Snapping• Edit sessions• Selecting features• Standard toolbar• Advanced Editing toolbar

E. Attributes:• Understanding table (Row - Column - Values)• Table Functions (Sort – Calculation – Summarize - Statistics)• Table Options• Graphs Reports• Select by Attribute (Query)• Select by location• Selection by graphics

The course will aim to introduce the remote sensing techniques to different kind of users, and give them the ability to be familiar with image processing software ERDAS IMAGINE 2014.

Part I:Cover the basic concepts of remote sensing technique, data types and enhancement of raw image using ERDAS IMAGINE 2014.

Part II:Concern on the application of image enhancement and processing for land use

applications on ERDAS IMAGINE 2014.

• Noise reduction• Histogram match• Atmospheric correction• Evaluation

• One of the general aims of the course is providing the business market with skilled cadres they are familiar with processing and analysis of satellite data in different disciplines.

• The course will continue the concept of taking information from ancillary data and field measurements by using the digital satellite images.• The trainee has to deal with the processes of image processing and classification modules.

• The trainee can differentiate between land units, geological features (rock unit, lineaments, and ores) and also can construct layout maps in different layers.

Part I:Concern on the classification of images and their applications for land observations using ERDAS IMAGINE 2014.

Part II:Deal with the application of remote sensing in geological mapping and features extractions using ERDAS IMAGINE 2014.

A. Spatial and spectral enhancement.• Resample image• Image sharpen and fusion• Resolution merge• Non-directional edge (Lineaments extraction)• Principal component concept• Principal component analysis• Inverse principal component• Tasseled cap transformation• Band rationing and Indices• Using NDVI indices• Create band ratio

B. Classification.• Unsupervised and supervised classification• Signature Editor
