During the filming we learned that one of our staff had been embezzling funds and breaking company policies. The young man is named Gregory A. Slate. We fired Slate Dec. 2007. We subsequently learned that he had a lengthy criminal record including eight arrests for resisting arrest and four active restraining orders within the past five years. A review of files on company computers demonstrated that Slate had committed a series of crimes across the US. We learned that Slate was part of an insurance fraud scam in Maryland. A few weeks after Mr. Slate was terminated I received a telephone call from ABC news attorneys in New York. They told me that Mr. Slate had filed a copyright lawsuit claiming that ABC had contracted directly with him for the story my company shot with ABC news. I was asked to participate as a witness. I have been providing ABC with e-mails, recorded calls, and other evidence. To date, ABC has been successful in court. As of two months ago Mr. Slate lost his last attorney in the case. In a closed conference with a federal judge, Slate's attorneys asked to be released from the case and Mr. Slate will be representing himself pro se January 3 2011 In Federal Court. With the exception of the other ABC producer, I am the only witness in this case for ABC news. Mr. Slate has spent nearly 3 years attacking my reputation on the Internet and through the filing of false police reports and civil complaints. Within three months of being fired Slate began posting smears on the Internet. The attacks were not limited to my business or my name they included my eight -year-old daughter and my wife. We reported our concerns to the police. We nevertheless recorded everything that happened and kept detailed records of the attacks on our business.

After several smears had been posted we decided to publish a website about the attacks on our family and our business. The website www.gregslate.tv includes Mr. Slate’s booking photos, evidence from our termination investigation and police records. The website is a news publication and is covered by basic media and journalism projections. My wife publishes a blog on the website to keep other victims aware of slate’s activities and to report additional attacks on other people. We have posted testimonials from other victims across the country. There's nothing defamatory or false. All of the documents were obtained legally through freedom of information act requests. Similarly the recordings of testimonials on the website are legal. Victims from all over the country have rallied on the page thanking us for posting the activities of slate. Greg Slate has done everything legal and illegal possible to force us to take the webpage down. Mr. Slate has filed over 35 copyright claims against the webpage over the past 18 months. Because the claims were rejected by the web hosting company Mr. Slate turned to the civil process and has filed multiple false claims against my wife and me. Last year he filed a restraining order claiming that I attempted to fire bomb his house. He provided the court with no evidence and no witnesses. The first judge refused to give him a Temporary Restraining Order. However the second judge extended an order of protection to both parties telling each side not to bother the other. However Mr. Slate has used the mutual order as a sledgehammer. He has not told anyone that he is part of the order but instead tells a fanciful tale of victimhood which has passed muster with more than one government agency. We have been under siege for nearly 3 years in a barrage of civil actions and subpoenas. Last year Mr. Slate gained admission to UDC law school where he is perfecting his attacks on our business and private life. I am concerned that a convicted criminal can have such unfettered support from state and federal agencies in the pursuit of false civil actions without any sort of review. Slate’s criminal record alone should disqualify him from such actions. But because the people he is reporting the crimes to are not reviewing his record his claims have gone unchallenged. Mr. Slate is not a victim and we have not contacted or communicated with him in any way for more than three years. However Slate has now filed a false claim through the AG domestic violence unit though he has never lived in our home. We believe that the AG’s office has been duped and is wrongly advocating on behalf a convicted criminal. If a convicted criminal with 8 arrests can file for restraining orders against law abiding citizens in another state by using the AG’s office something is wrong with our justice system. We have hired an attorney and intend to fight these false charges. We are writing our Senator and Congressman about the matter.
