DeAR illini nAtiOn, In the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, we share a vision of excellence. This vision incorporates a strategic plan with a mission and goals to provide a culture which fosters the development of student-athletes for excellence academically, competitively and socially.
We are able to achieve great things now and in the future because of our loyal I FUND donors. Who is the I FUND? The I FUND is YOU! As a donor, you impact the lives of over 500 Fighting Illini student-athletes each and every day. On behalf of these fine young men and women who are our future leaders, I want to offer my sincere thanks.
In 2015, we are launching our new I FUND brand, website, video series, goals and benefits for our I FUND members. By taking Nike’s re-branding lead, our I FUND logo has been modernized to proudly honor the Block I with the Nike influence.
Our new slogan, “I AM THE I FUND,” will be associated with messages that reflect the excellence, loyalty, tradition, success and pride we all have for our student-athletes, coaches and teams. What’s our campaign goal? It’s our 15 by 15 by 2020 plan. This means 15,000 donors giving $15 million annually to I FUND scholarships by the year 2020. Initially, this may sound fairly aggressive, but together I KNOW we can accomplish our goal. We CAN do this and we WILL do this with the suppport from one of the largest fan bases in the country.
Currently, I FUND donors annually cover $7.2 million of our $10.7 million scholarship bill. While the generous support is valued, it still represents a significant gap. Additionally, as tuition and fees increase, unfortunately, so does the gap. With every new I FUND member, and the continued and loyal support of current members, we will close the gap now and in the future. If we all work together and pull the rope in the same direction, we WILL achieve our goals.
I’d like to invite you to join the Illini Nation in this movement. I’d also like to challenge you to encourage your friends, family members, neighbors, and classmates and to invest in the I FUND. Let’s move the needle forward and provide the support our Fighting Illini
student-athletes deserve and sincerely appreciate.
I am Mike Thomas….I AM THE I FUND!

COST OF SCHOLArSHIPS
Illinois Athletics needs the COlleCtIVe GeneROsIty from alumni, fans and friends supporting the I FUND to meet the scholarship needs of over 500 Illini student-athletes.
During fiscal year 2014, the I FUND had a $3.5 MIllIOn GaP in fulfilling the costs of student-athlete scholarships. Financial resources from other revenue sources are currently being used to meet the scholarship needs, which in turn negatively impacts
resources that can be used for ReCRuItInG, aCadeMIC suPPORt, faCIlIty
