1 The information contained i n t h i s regulation appl ies t o t he t e s t i n g of the RT 351 using the Automatic Test Equipment (~lansman/Larkspur) (ATE).

2 For d e t a i l s of t he operation of the ATE, reference should be made t o Tels M 391.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

3 The RT 351 t e s t tape, i den t i f i ed by the p l a in language leader, w i l l be used for:

3.1 The examination of the equipment i n t h e hands of t he user.

3.2 In and out inspection of equipment undergoing r epa i r i n REME workshops.

3.3 The examination of depot stocks.

4 The pr in tou t of the high l i m i t of the f i r s t t e s t i n the programme w i l l i den t i fy the type and issue of the tape. The high l i m i t p r in tou t and i t s in te rpre ta t ion is:

Coding : HM 0351

Key: 351 ~ n s ~ e c t i o n standard

5 Tests have been arranged so t h a t a minimum of operator intervention i s required t o s e t the ATE controls.

6 Table 1 of t h i s regulation contains a descr ipt ion of each tes t i n the programme together with the operator action required.

7 Table 2 contains a p r in tou t of the t e s t programme machine code.

TEST CONDITIONS

Power supplies

11 Under normal conditions the d.c. supply t o (e.u. t) i s 24 V unless otherwise s t a t e d i n the

the equipment under t e s t t e s t description.

R.F. input voltages

12 A l l r e f . input voltages a re quoted i n terms of the open c i r c u i t voltage a t the synthesiser at tenuator output.

A.F. output termination

13 The e.u.t. receiver a.f. output i s terminated i n the ATE by 300 $2 unless otherwise stated.

ATE TEST METHODS

General

14 ATE t e s t methods a re described i n Tels M 391. However, i n t he following paragraphs, a number of t e s t s i n the RT 351 t e s t programme a re described i n some d e t a i l t o f a c i l i t a t e the in te rpre ta t ion of r e su l t s .

Signal + noise/noise r a t i o

15 The s igna l + noise/noise r a t i o measurements, a t any frequency, require two t e s t s . In the f i r s t t e s t , a s ignal carrying standard modulation i s applied t o t he e.u.t. antenna and the r e su l t an t a.f. output i s measured v i a 16 dB of at tenuation. This r e s u l t i s recorded a s the comparator high l i m i t . In t he second t e s t , the modulation and the a.f. a t tenuat ion a r e removed. The r e su l t an t a.f . output s h a l l be l e s s than t h a t recorded a s t he comparator high l i m i t .

Current consumption

16 The e.u.t. current consumption, f o r the receive o r transmit condition, i s t e s t ed by measuring a voltage drop produced by the current through a 0.1 R r e s i s t o r , eg a current of 1 A w i l l produce a voltage drop of 100 mV.

Transmitter power measurement

17 ~ r a n s m i t t e r power i s measured by applying the e .u. t. output power, v i a an a t tenuator , t o a power monitor i n the ATE and measuring the r e su l t an t d.c. voltage output. The conversion laws f o r a t tenuator routes i n the Switching Unit Monitor (SUM) are:

Via 20 dB attenuator: 1W 5 100mV Via 30 dB at tenuator : 1 W E 1 0 m V

150 Hz tone deviation measurement

18 There i s no 150 Hz bandpass f i l t e r i n the Modulation Meter 9008 M (9008 M mod meter) and it i s therefore necessary t o subtract the deviation caused by noise from the deviation caused by the tone and noise, i n order t o ensure accurate deviation measurements. Tests 0020-0021 and 0047-0048 have been programmed t o f a i l and the operator i s required t o subtract the r e s u l t obtained i n t e s t 0020 from t h a t obtained i n t e s t 0021 and 0047 from 0048. This i s t o be ca r r i ed out when t e s t i n g has been completed and, depending on the r e s u l t , PASS or FAIL i s t o be wri t ten on the paper pr intout .

Squelch s e n s i t i v i t y

19 The spec i f ica t ion i s t h a t the squelch s h a l l open with an input s igna l greater than t h a t needed t o give 9 dB of qu ie t ing and s h a l l remain closed with an input s igna l l e s s than t h a t needed t o give 2.5 dB quieting.

19.1 The specif icat ion requirement i s t e s t e d by the ATE i n the t e s t sequence 0034-0040 and 0085-0090. The antenna input i s automatically increased (ramped) i n 1 dB s teps u n t i l t he e.u.t. quie t ing l e v e l i s e i t he r 2 dB o r 9 dB. The ATE w i l l r e g i s t e r a f a i l condition u n t i l t he input l eve l has r i sen su f f i c i en t ly t o produce the required quiet ing level . The ATE w i l l then move t o the next t e s t .

19.2 During the ramp period, the operator i s ins t ruc ted t o s e l e c t PRINTER OFF. T h i s prevents unnecessary f a i l p r in tou ts during the ramping sequence. PRINTER OFF i s deselected f o r the following t e s t .

19.3 The ATE does not have the f a c i l i t y t o a t tenua te s igna l s i n 0.5 dB s teps and, therefore , 2 dB has been used a s the lower l i m i t .
