Boogie Lounge is arranged over two floors and is the only place to be seen in Epsom. We have made many improvements, aesthetic and otherwise, over the last five years for your enjoyment and safety.

We’ve been awarded the safer pub and club award for five years in a row which is very important to us. The latest CCTV has been recently fitted with night vision and more cameras covering every angles of the club.

Anyway, enough of the sensible stuff!

We pride ourselves on being a great, friendly and welcoming venue for you to clear your head of studying stresses, chill out and have fun! This booklet contains all the information you will need for the forthcoming academic year at Boogie Lounge.

The first Full Moon Party was improvised at a wooden disco not far from the beach in 1985, for giving thanks to about 20–30 travellers. The parties gained fame through word of mouth, and the event now draws a crowd of about 20,000–30,000 every full moon evening. The party carries on until the sun rises the next day. The bars on the sunrise beach of Haad Rin town stay open and play music such as psychedelic trance, R&B, drum and bass, house, dance and reggae. Its attractions include fire skipping ropes, alcohol ‘buckets’ . The Full Moon Party takes place every month throughout the year at it’s most popular location,Hadd Rin beach at the South end of Ko Pha-Ngan island.

Epsom was founded in or about the 6th century.

Epsom LandmarksOne of the most distinctive surviving landmark has to be the Clock Tower (that big tower clock that looks like Big Ben) This was regularly wound by a volunteer member of the public, but also accommodated the lock-up and its keeper and the Constable.

EPSOM IS FAMOUS FOR 3 THINGS:

1. Epsom Salts

Tradition told how the healing powers of the waters were discovered around 1618. From this, Epsom was known as a spa town in 17th Century.

Some beauty tips for Epsom Salt:“Epsom salt is a pure mineral compound (magnesium sulfate) in crystal form that gently exfoliates skin and smoothes rough patches. Regularly used by a growing number of models and actresses, it’s a popular natural choice for beauty enhancement. Mix it with your favorite deep conditioner to add body to your hair or dissolve in a bath to replenish the body’s magnesium levels. A relaxing soak in Epsom salt can help relieve stress and leave you feeling revived.” Epsom Salt Council

So take your study stresses away and relax in a bath of Epsom Salt

2. The Derby and the Oaks horse racing.

One of the biggest racing events in the UK. Imagine the entire Downs filled with lots of people and lots of fun! Ladies Day is filled with glamorous men and women, suits, dresses and top hats so take an opportunity to get yourself to this fabulous annual event. Derby Day is probably one of the only times the Queen will grace our lovely town. You can find her watching the event from the Queen Stand on Epsom Downs. One of the most famous events to happen at the Epsom Derby was Emily Davison stepping in front of King George V’s horse Anmer. To stand up for Womens right to vote! Her fellow suffragettes made her into an international martyr.

Interesting fact about the Epsom Downs:

The Queen’s Stand at Epsom Downs race course featured as the airport of ST Petersburg in the James Bond film ‘Golden Eye’ 1995

Epsom Mental Hospitals

Yes, we were once famous for our Mental Hospitals. In 1888 the London County Council began building institutions to house up to 2000 pauper lunatics.

The three hospitals were:

ST Ebba’sLong GroveWest Park

However these hospitals were closed down in the early 2000’s. A lot of the hospitals have been demolished and developed into housing estates. West Park hospital still stands and is great for photography opportunities if you can get passed the metal fences and security!
