BUSINESS AND FINANCE PROGRAMS

YOUTH BUSINESS BUILDERS

Description: Youth Business Builders is a two-week entrepreneurship summer

camp for students entering grades 6-9. Participants will learn and practice the steps

to create an e-commerce business. Ecommerce refers to the activity of

electronically buying or selling of products over the Internet. Participants will work

in teams, interact with local entrepreneurs, develop their own innovative ideas and

products, determine their target market and pricing, learn how to give an elevator

pitch and sell their products online. This experience includes a camp t-shirt, field

trips, recreation, lunch, snacks, and before and aftercare.

Target Group: Students entering grades 6-9

Start Date: July 6, 2020

End Date: July 17, 2020

Time: Camp runs daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended hours are offered

from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

SUMMER PROGRAM IN ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

Description: The Summer Program in Accounting and Finance (SPAF) is a summer

residential program for high school students interested in accounting and finance.

Target Group: High School Students

Cost: The Summer Program in Accounting and Finance is free to all participants.

There is no charge for the meals, accommodations, lectures, or company/university

SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS

(STEM) PROGRAMS

BALTIMORE MUREP AEROSPACE ACADEMY (BMAA)

Description: The Baltimore MUREP Aerospace Academy (BMAA) at Morgan State

University is designed to improve STEM literacy by engaging students, teachers and

family members; by utilizing SEMAA developed curriculum enhancement activities

that are aligned to National STEM Standards and by the integration of emerging

technologies. During the Summer Day Camp, students meet for four (4) one-week

sessions Monday through Friday. In class, students are engaged in hands-on,

interactive learning that is specifically designed for each grade level. BMAA project

delivers hands-on/ inquiry-based K-12 curriculum that is aligned to the National

Math, Science, and Technology standards; Aerospace Education Laboratory (AEL), a

state-of-the-art, electronically-enhanced computerized classroom that offers

participants the opportunity to experience real-world challenges in aviation and

aeronautics; and the STARLAB Portable Planetarium which exposes students,

teachers, parents to astronomy, weather patterns, navigation, cell biology, etc.

Target Group: Maryland students in grades K-12

BEAT THE STREETS STEM WRESTLING CAMP

Description: Beat the Streets (BTS) is the only wrestling camp that offers

a hybrid program that includes STEM research, health management, and

academic development. The focus of the summer program is to link

resources from Education Resources Centers to the K-12 methods teacher

education curriculum. BTS and Morgan State University have collaborated to

develop a framework for STEM teaching and learning experiences.

Campers will work in small groups to develop a bio-engineered solution via

robotics for unclean wrestling mats. This portion of the camp will reinforce

math and science skills in addition to the introduction to the world of coding

and robotics. Each camper will create a video of their experience and these

activities will be followed-up and linked to the 2021 Morgan State University

Annual Mathematics-Science-Engineering Fair and participation in the Beat

the Streets Wrestling program. Submitting a project in the Regional Science

and Engineering Fair is required to participate in this opportunity.

This camp provides our youth wrestlers the opportunity to learn not only the

fundamental skills of wrestling but the same cutting edge technique shown

to world-class college and world level wrestlers. The campers will participate

in a wrestling dual tournaments in Hershey, PA.

Description: CAMP ACHIEVEMENT strives to provide campers with enriching

daily academic and social activities that cover a broad range of in-demand

topics including STEM, English, history, reading, as well as cultural

Description: Kings Summer Academy Camp (KSAC) offers the opportunity

to experience an Intensive Enrichment Curriculum that prepares children for

the next academic year and ultimately careers in STEM disciplines. KSAC

provides 5 to 8 weeks of exciting, invigorating and unforgettable experiences

for children ages 4 to 14 (K-8).

What to expect in the Kindergarten and Elementary Curriculum: “Catch them

young” approach by exposure to the rudiments of good study habits and

motivation for excellence in Math and Science.

What to expect in the Middle School Curriculum: Preparatory classes tailored

Description: The SCMNS PERSIST Summer Program is a residential

pre-matriculation program designed to prepare 26 accepted SCMNS biology

and chemistry freshmen for foundational 100-level STEM courses. The

program features rigorous academic activities in math, biology, chemistry,

professional development activities, a seminar series featuring MSU alumni

currently working in STEM fields, social activities, and field trips. Students

receive a stipend for successful completion of the program.

SUMMER ACADEMY OF ACTUARIAL AND MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES

(SAAMS) PROGRAM

Description: The Summer Academy of Actuarial and Mathematical Sciences

(SAAMS) Program is a rigorous academic enrichment program designed to

foster excitement among high school students in STEM disciplines with an

emphasis on mathematics, actuarial science, and computer science.

Students spend six weeks on the beautiful campus of the designated

national treasure, Morgan State University (Maryland), and attend

mathematics and computer science classes.

Students will also attend professional development sessions to prepare them

for college. Field trips (such as iFly and visits to Insurance and Financial

Services companies), case studies, and other enrichment activities are

designed to enhance students’ interest in mathematics, actuarial science,

and computer science.

Target Group: The SAAMS Program accepts applicants who are rising

12th-grade students, as well as graduating seniors who have been accepted

to Morgan State University. Applicants are selected through a competitive

application and interview process.

VERIZON INNOVATIVE LEARNING PROGRAM FOR YOUNG MEN OF COLOR

Description: The camp will consist of a three-week intensive learning

experience including courses in augmented and virtual reality, coding, 3D

design, entrepreneurship, and design thinking principles. Following the

summer, the students will participate in monthly sessions throughout the

academic year where they will develop a technology solution for a

community problem that aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs). Technology equipment will be provided for

student usage and learning throughout the Program.

BENJAMIN A. QUARLES SUMMER OUTREACH INSTITUTE

Description: The Benjamin A. Quarles Summer Outreach Institute will

select eight students from the Baltimore area public high schools for a

summer outreach experience. The program is designed to expose students

to the interdisciplinary nature of the humanities at Morgan through a

summer institute that aims at promoting diversity in museums and the

underrepresentation of minorities in museum professions, i.e. curatorial,

development, graphic design, exhibition design that aims at promoting

diversity in museums and other cultural institutions. The focus will be on art

exposure, various museum models, the history of museums and the roles of

museums in society.

Description: The Upward Bound Summer Academy provides high school

students with a taste of college life, rigorous academic preparation for future

PROGRAMS FOR MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

ACCESS ORIENTATION PROGRAM

Description: During the ACCESS Orientation Program, students and their

parents will receive financial aid assistance including FAFSA information,

residence life information, placement testing results, academic advisement,

and career counseling. Additionally, students will participate in activities,

workshops, and seminars to include topics such as college transition, school

spirit, study skills, and test-taking strategies. It is expected that new

students will leave the ACCESS Orientation Program week with all of the

necessary tools and resources required for their Fall enrollment at the

university, as well as for their first year of academic success. All first-time

Freshmen are required to attend the ACCESS Orientation Program. Maryland

residents are required to attend one of the scheduled July sessions.

Target Group: The ACCESS Orientation Program is for first-time freshmen

who have been accepted for admission to Morgan State University for the

2020 Fall semester.

Dates: The ACCESS Orientation Program will be conducted Sunday through

Wednesday on the following dates:

Session 1: July 12-15, 2020

Session 2: July 19-22, 2020

Session 3: July 26-29, 2020

Session 4: August 16-19, 2020

Cost: The ACCESS Orientation Program costs $250.00. It is non-refundable.

Students must have paid the $150 University confirmation fee to the Office

of Admissions prior to registering for the Orientation. Please note that if

Maryland students attend the August session, they will be charged a late fee

of $100 in addition to $250 ($350 total fee).

BENJAMIN A. QUARLES UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Description: In 2015, the Andrew Mellon Foundation funded Morgan State’s

University’s College of Liberal Arts to support the continued development of

the humanities. As such the University used the funds to establish the

Benjamin A. Quarles Humanities and Social Science Institute. The Institute’s

mission and objectives support the College’s strategic commitments for

students, faculty, and the community, and provide funding in that regard.

The undergraduate student component of the Mellon Foundation grant - the

Quarles Undergraduate Scholars Program - works to prepare Morgan State

University’s best undergraduate students to become capable and passionate

scholars, beginning with the six-week residential study and enrichment

program.

CASA ACADEMY SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM 2020

Description: The CASA Academy is an alternative admissions program

sponsored by the Center for Academic Success and Achievement at Morgan

State University. Transitioning high school students who have applied to

Morgan State University, but fail to meet the requirements for regular

admission, are referred to the Center from the Office of Undergraduate

Admissions and invited to apply to the summer program. The students’

profiles fall into two tiers: (1) SAT 920-880/ACT 16 and a cumulative GPA of

2.0 or (2) SAT 870-840/ACT 15 and a cumulative 2.5 GPA. All participants

who successfully complete the program are guaranteed admission to the

University for the subsequent fall semester.

Target Group: Morgan State University's CASA Academy Summer Bridge

Program is only open to high school seniors who have completed the Morgan

State University undergraduate application for admission and have received

a letter from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment

indicating your status as a CASA Academy referral.

Cost: Fees for this program are determined on an annual basis and subject

SUMMER TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE

Description: The Summer Transportation Institute (STI) will introduce

fifteen (15) high school students to career opportunities in transportation.

The program features four weeks of exciting field trips, hands-on projects,

and networking opportunities with industry professionals. STI is “Free”.

Students receive a full scholarship that covers the entire cost of attending

the program, including all lab fees, and field trips. Lunch and bus passes are

also provided daily.

Target Group: Applicants should be entering 10th, 11th or 12th grade

during the 2020-2021 school year; have completed or been qualified to

enroll in pre-algebra; and have at least a 2.5 GPA.
