    FALS DANCE

    “Never get

    tired of doing

    little things

    for others.

    Sometimes

    those little

    things occupy

    the biggest

    parts of their

    hearts.”

    -Unknown

December is a great time of the year for the FALS/CALS program.

Each year the Towson FALS program sponsors one of the most antici-

pated events for our Special High school students, the county wide

Winter Ball for the FALS/CALS high school programs.

This year, the dance is being held on December 10th. This year’s theme

is “Warm Hugs and Snowflakes.” The dance is being held at the lodge

at Oregon Ridge in Hunt Valley. Stu-

dents from all over Baltimore County

come for a fun filled dance that helps

builds self esteem and social skills. Last

year, over 250 students partied the day

away with music provided by a profes-

sional DJ, Pizza from Season’s Pizza

and games. This year we are expecting almost 300 students from BCPS high

    schools and special schools.

We are excited to announce that the Best Buddies sponsors will be accompanying

the students to assist with the production and running of the dance. The Best Bud-

dies program is a national program that matches special needs students with non-

disabled peers. The Best Buddies program started at the end of last year and now

includes over 30 Towson High students.

Blood Drive The blood drive is coming back! This year, the annual Towson High School blood

drive will be held on February 25. The blood drive gives students the amazing oppor-

tunity to help someone who desperately needs aid. Every day, more than 41,000

blood donations are needed and someone is in need of blood every two seconds in the

United States. And donating just one pint of blood can save up to three lives! The

process of giving blood is completely safe and reliable. To learn more about how

    blood donations work, visit http://

Art Department The National Art Honor’s Society and the Art Department would like to extend a

big “thank you” to artist, Amanda Burnham, who has

been working with our students to create a community

inspired drawing installation in the art hallway. Burn-

ham, a design professor at Towson

    University has been working with

    area schools to create collaborative

    works using simple drawing tech-

    niques that are transformed through

a larger than life scale and three di-

    mensional use of space. Responding

to the prompt, “what are the compo-

nents that make your community?” students created a

variety of drawings ranging from important local land-

marks to the textures and topography in our

everyday surroundings. We also included vis-

ual response to the Waverly and Baltimore

community based on a NAHS sponsored field

trip to the32nd street farmer’s market. If you

have a chance, be sure to check

out our students’ work on the

    third floor!
