INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE POLICYWhat You Should Know

AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS AND INSTRUCTORS All students and instructors have access to the

Internet in our labs. The Internet offers vast, unique, and diverse

research opportunities. E-mail accounts are available to all instructors. Access to online library catalogs is also available.

SOME CONTENT MAY BE RESTRICTED

Access to some Websites and online content may be restricted.

Some commercial Websites may be off-limits. Other objectionable Websites may also be restricted by

our firewall. Even so, new Websites appear every day, and not all

Websites can be blocked.

RISK OF DOWNLOADING FILES

Many Websites provide files for purchase or free download.

Popular music and video download sites include YouTube, Hulu, and Kazaa.

Many download sites provide pirated content that is available for free.

Downloading pirated music, videos, software, games, and books is illegal.

Downloading files also exposes our computers to the risk of viruses and other malware.

SIGNING THE AUP

All instructors and students are required to sign the technology Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), which is legally binding on the users.

This document spells out the terms of use for the computer system.

The AUP also provides detailed guidelines for instructor and student use of the computer system.

NETWORK ETIQUETTE

instructors and students are expected to follow these rules of network etiquette: Use appropriate language. No illegal activities. Don’t reveal your personal information. E-mail messages are not private and can be read by system

administrators. Don’t disrupt others’ use of the network. All information and messages obtained from the network are

assumed to be private property.

RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES

Use of the computer system and network is a privilege, not a right.

Violation of the AUP will result in revoking this privilege. Do not attempt to use another person’s network

account. Vandalism will result in revoking network privileges. Please sign and turn in the AUP before start of class

tomorrow!
