1963's oldest graduating class
Not a youngster in the group. All are experienced engineers with Bachelor's Degrees. Many haveMaster's. Some PhD's. They're the 83 graduates of the Beckman Training Course. They're our newanalytical instrument selling team. Our direct sales force. They can be especially helpful insolving your problems because each has worked in laboratories much like yours. Instrumentapplication, they understand. Instruments, they know well. For that's all they have to sell. Test them.

UNIQUE NEW TANDEMICT ACCELERATOR OFFERSHIGH ENERGY AND VERSATILITY
8 MeV Tandem Unitcan be convertedto single-stage,positive ion orelectron operation
Features:Ion source at ground potentialHeavy ion acceleration-multiple strippingICT voltage generator has 12 milliampere rating
to handle future high current ion sources and targets*Single-purpose ICT electron accelerator with vertical beam tubeand scanner (not shown) will offer 20 ma or 60 kilowatts of elec-trons at 3 MeV. At this energy, 6 kilowatts of x-rays will be avail-able for a variety of studies in radiation chemistry.
The figures tell the story about the usefulness ofHigh Voltage Engineering's new ICT particle accel-erator. Its 8 MeV maximum energy permits nuclearstructure research in areas still relatively unex-plored. This accelerator system offers the sameclean beam, low energy spread, and conversioncharacteristics associated with Van de Graaff ma-chines.
Used as a neutron source the accelerator canprovide a wide range of neutron energies. Thesingle-stage positive ion mode of operation pro-vides intense neutron fluxes using the Be9 (d,n) B10reaction, and also permits studies of reactions withvery small cross-sections. The intense electronbeam can be used for x-ray production and radia-
tion effects studies. While the ICT may be used either as a single- or
multi-stage accelerator, the high current which ispotentially available in tandem or single-stage op-eration is geared to future ion source and targetdevelopments. Current results of our tandem re-search program have shown the feasibility of in-tense negative ion sources, and excellent efficiencyin conversion to positive ions at the mid-terminal.The ICT Tandem has all the power needed to capi-talize on high current developments.
We have a new General Catalog in which thesesystems and our entire product line are described,Write for a copy.

Don't beliaeve our newr soliad stale defector brochures(This curve is the latest word)
At least don't pay attention to the partthat says resolution is "better than20 KEy" for the new Lithium Ion DriftDetector (some even said 30 KEy). In-stead look at the resolution shown inthe curve above. It is 11.2 KEV (FWHM)- at room temperature - or what weshould have called "better than 12KEV". The rest of the information inthe folder is correct. Window thick-nesses from 25-50 microns and deepdepletion regions combine to givelinear response over a wide range ofenergies . . . leakage is less than2 microamperes at 100 volts .., pricesare sensible ... and the detectors areon the shelf. The description of the new DoubleDiffused Planar Passivated Detectorsfor low energy charged particles 'Wascorrect. They have dead layers of lessthan a micron. A new patented passi-
vation technique gives. them muchhigher resistance to fingerprints, mois-ture, gases and other environmentalproblems. It also gives them high reso-lution and low leakage current that isshown in a curve provided with eachdetector. Furthermore, the detectorsare fully guaranteed for six months.
