Opened in September 2008, the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio in Banbridge is dedicated to the memory of Banbridge-born sculptor Frederick Edward McWilliam, one of Ireland’s most influential and successful artists. Frederick Edward McWilliam was born in Banbridge on the 30th April 1909. He died in London in 1992 and the executors of his estate donated the sculptor’s studio and its contents to
the town of his birth. The gallery and studio houses the collection in a superb exhibition facility of gallery, garden and reconstructed studio. It also provides a tourist information centre, café and craft shop. The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 5pm and Sunday from 1pm until 5pm.

Built in 1690, Queen Mary funded Derry’s first Presbyter ian Church in recognit ion of the Presbyterians and their defence of the City during the siege in 1689. Today it remains the only Presbyterian Church within the City walls.The present building was built in 1780 with the Vestibule, of Dungiven sandstone, added in 1820 and the Portico & the four fluted columns with Corinthian capitals, added in 1902.

For more than 800 years, Carrickfergus Castle has been an imposing monument on the Northern Ireland landscape whether it is approached by land, sea or air. Originally built in 1177 by John de Courcy it has been altered throughout the centuries and was in use as a garrisoned property until as late as 1928. It is probably the best-preserved medieval and Norman castle in Ireland. The castle now houses historical and

(028) 2073 1938Dunluce Castle is dramatically located close to a headland that plunges straight into the sea, along the North Antrim coast. It was the headquarters of the MacDonnell Clan. Constantly fought over, the castle eventually succumbed to the power of nature, when part of it fell into the sea one stormy night in 1639. It was abandoned shortly afterwards. Dunluce Castle is regarded as the possible inspiration for Cair Paravel in C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia.

St. Patrick’s Day pilgrims climb its 437m summit and enjoy panoramic views of the area. Nearby Broughshane is famed as the Garden Village of Ulster, having won many national and international floral accolades. The Lough Foyle Ferry operates a car ferry service from Greencastle, Co. Donegal to Magilligan in Co. Londonderry. Crossing time is just under 15 minutes and results in a saving of 78kms (49miles) driving! No advance booking is required and fares paid on board. Through live spinning and weaving demonstrations, our expert guides tell the rich history of linen production in Ulster, from the earliest times to the present. Irish linen was famous worldwide, and visitors can admire fine samples of Coulson’s damask or designs by Sybil Connolly, whose dresses were worn by Jackie Kennedy. See a selection of linen christening robes, cloth woven for Queen Victoria, and wares from the world-renowned Robinson & Cleaver. Regular exhibitions on the history of the town, its people and the surrounding area are also held in the historic 17th-century Market House Gallery.
