A B O U T S C A R S I N Scarsin is a software development and service company specializing in enterprise-class Business Intelligence. Scarsin’s Integrated Insight Environment (i2e) platform supports global organizations’ critical business processes.

i2e is an end-to-end BI platform designed to integrate all complex BI processes into a unified solution, with a focus on business friendly processes and direct integration with Microsoft Office.

Enterprise data management, collaborative forecasting, robust PowerPoint reporting and interactive web and mobile scorecards can now be easily managed solely by business teams. Customers choose i2e based on the speed, agility, cost effectiveness and business friendly processes.

C H A L L E N G E SFrom a more detailed standpoint, their challenges included the following:

Data Management:

• The team was processing more than 30 source files each month to provide all the necessary data from internal and external sources

• A number of the processes moving data from one step to another involved man-ual manipulation of the data making it slow, costly and riskier from an error standpoint

• The solution required many globally scaled data transformations to be performed in order to create the final appropriate KPIs

• Too much of the Data Quality Management (DQM) was reliant on team review which would consume Analyst time

Forecasting:

• The team had developed a common Excel forecast model that could support more than 70 required brand/country combinations

• The major problems dealt with the time required to refresh the data each forecast cycle based on a manual process

In addition to this, there were major change management challenges related to improving the model with new functionality (which involved updating all the workbooks)

PPT Reporting:

• The Analytic team had responsibility to provide PPT reporting on a monthly basis to a number of stakeholders

• The current processes involved a blend of manual and macro based updating

• This again consumed valuable Analytic team resources during the month

Interactive Web and Mobile Reporting

• The team had created very elaborate dashboard like reporting for manage-ment, but it was completely based in Excel

The views had only limited query capability based on the data embedded in the Excel solutions

S O L U T I O N S In 2013, a pilot project was launched lever-aging i2e with the objective to show sig-nificant value across their business unit but focusing on a subset of their global regional structure. They challenged i2e to

prove value in its:

• speed to deployment

• agility in comparison to other best-of-breed BI platforms.

• ability to enable increased insights

• cost effectiveness

O B J E C T I V E S To deliver value to this organization, across the four key areas of focus above:

1. Speed

• Data ETL and Data Quality Management (DQM) occurring at a faster rate allowing for quicker refreshes of the forecasting and reporting solutions

• Reporting in PPT and Web/Mobile dash-boards delivered with earlier Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

2. Agility

• Ability to support rapid change man-agement in forecasting solutions which support over 70 processes

• Continued ability to enhance the relational properties of key data elements thereby supporting increased business answers

3. Increased Insights

Reallocation of Analyst time due to auto-mation facilitating more insight analysis

• Self-service capability with Brand and Corporate management providing web/mobile reporting improving insights into business performance

4. Cost Effectiveness

• Reduction in related consultant costs for data management

• Increased ability of an analyst to sup-port a greater breadth of requirement (support more with less resources)

A fully integrated solution addressing all the company’s needs via one plat-form not only saves significant time but allows resources to focus on critical insights driving business decisions.

• Data from disparate sources is integrated on a single platform with automated

refreshes. This ensures consistent and timely data availability for insight generation

An automated system from DataManagement through to forecast-ing, reporting and dashboard delivery, enables significant time savings and re-allocation of resources to more important tasks

The replacement of multiple systems with one easy-to-use fully integrated platform results in decreased operating costs

• The centralization of forecasting process-es enables greater global collaboration, control and change management

• Accuracy and consistency of forecasts across countries is now a simple process

i2e will not only enable us to stream-line processes but will also allow us to build reports and dashboards quickly, while pro-viding a flexible platform for the team to leverage and build greater BI capabilities in the long term...

COST EFFECTIVENESSThe signi cant e ort required to get data into the company’s forecast models has now been reduced by 60% due to a streamlined Data Qual-ity Management (DQM) process
