Staying at the Jury’s Inn – delegates are at the heart of Birmingham’s entertainment district, full of bars and restaurants, and some iconic music social venues including the Mailbox, Symphony Hall and the International Convention Centre. A convenient base to explore the city, it’s also great for getting around – New Street Train Station is a 5 minute walk away. More miles of canals than Venice and more trees than Paris, Birmingham surprises its visitors (both UK and international) time and time again. The birthplace of the industrial revolution, the original workshop of the world and the birthplace of “middle-earth” the Lord of the Rings epic was written in Birmingham and inspired by the landscape – Birmingham is modest about its heritage, but only because there is more fun in discovery than “Brummies” shouting about it. As an attendee of the 2009 ATO and TOECS Evaluation Seminar and Course, we want you to enjoy exploring Birmingham and remember us as a city to succeed in. This short guide aims to help you make the most of the short time you have in the city, as well as find ways to relax and unwind in a city of amazing options. So go explore! Sealife Birmingham Sealife is a network of innovative centres across the UK, Europe and beyond that operate both as a family attraction and great family day out, and also as a conservation and education organisation. Sealife helps millions of people to discover the marine world through its coastal sanctuaries, such as Gweek, in the West Country, and it’s hi-tech, all swimming all dancing centres in Birmingham, Great Yarmouth, Blackpool, Brighton, Scarborough, Weymouth and Loch Lomond. Each Sealife centre helps to safeguard the seas and their inhabitants for the future and for all of us, by sponsoring conservation efforts and through increased public awareness among visitors on their family day out. Sealife Birmingham is a family attraction at the aptly-named Waters Edge on the opposite side of the canal from the National Indoor Arena at Brindley Place. A perfect family day out that the weather can’t spoil, a ticket to Sealife Birmingham grants entry to over 60 displays of marine life and some startling close encounters with amazing creatures, from shrimps and sea horses to sharks and rays. There are over 4,500 sea and freshwater creatures, including over 2000 fish, at Sealife Birmingham, with a recent feature adding to its attraction for a family day out The Lost City Of Atlantis. A maze of stylised ancient ruins, it winds its way around the lairs of mysterious sea dwellers including the guardian of sunken treasures, coral caves and hidden temples, the Giant Pacific
