Who are the Flyers?

The Philadelphia Flyers are an ice hockey team that plays in the National

Hockey League, the biggest hockey league in the world. Players come from

many different countries to play for the Flyers. The team plays their home

games at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia.

I’m Going to See the Flyers!

Before you leave to see the Flyers, make sure you get something to eat

and are hydrated. The Wells Fargo Center does not allow you to bring

food or drinks. You can buy food and drinks at the arena, but it is highly

recommended that you eat a meal before coming to the game.

Also, it is a good idea to bring a jacket because it can be cold in the

Wells Fargo Center.

What do I need to do before I go?

tickets, show you to your seat, and help keep everyone at the game safe.

They wear the words “Event Staff” on their jackets. If you have a question

or get lost, you can tell one of the Wells Fargo Center Event Staff.

Who are the people working in the arena?

A fan is someone who cheers for the team. When you go to a Flyers

game, you will see a lot of Flyers fans. They will be happy and excited,

and they will probably be wearing orange. There will be fans of the team

the Flyers are playing that night too. They traveled all the way to Phila-

delphia to see their favorite team play against the Flyers.

What is a fan?

You and your family will take the Broad Street Line subway to the stadium.

The subway will probably have other Flyers fans on it that are traveling to

the game. Your family might want to leave early to avoid the crowds.

How do we get there if we are taking public

transportation?

You might have to drive on the highway and there could be traffic. Your

family might want to leave the house early to beat the traffic to the

game. Don’t worry, there is plenty to do if you get there early.

There are entrances on both sides of the arena. There is a “Broad

Street” door and an “11th Street” door. You can enter through either

door. Once you’re inside, you give your ticket to a member of the Event

Staff (they are called “turnstiles”). They will scan your ticket and then

you can walk through the turnstile.

How do we get in to the game?

It is the job of the security people to make sure that everyone stays safe.

The security workers in the arena may wave a stick over you and your

family. The stick has a sensor in it so it can see if people are bringing

things in to the arena that are not allowed.

What are the security people doing?

The Wells Fargo Center holds thousands of people. Everyone is trying to

get to their seats, buy food, and use the restroom before the game

starts. It will be very crowded and you have to be extra careful that you

stay with your group. Never go off on your own because you could get

lost in the crowd.

Why are there so many people?

is pizza, chicken fingers, fries, ice cream, hamburgers, and cheesesteaks.

Food at the Wells Fargo Center costs money so you may not be able to

get anything which is why it is important to eat before you go.

Also, there are stores and vendors that sell Flyers clothes and souvenirs.

If you want to buy something, you will have to bring money or ask your

mom or dad for money.

What are people shopping for?

Your seat is printed on your ticket. Your ticket will tell you which section

you are in (either lower level, club level, suite level, or mezzanine level)

and which row you are in. The ticket will also tell you your exact seat

number.

A hockey game has three periods that are each 20 minutes long. There is

a 15 minute break after the first and second periods. There are a lot of

times during the game when the teams have to stop playing. This makes

the game go on longer. Games usually last around 2 ½ hours.

How long is the game?

The Flyers have a gigantic video board that hangs from the center of the

ceiling. The video board shows a close up view of what is going on down

on the ice. If you are having trouble seeing what’s going on, you can look

at the video board. When the team isn’t playing, the video board will

show interactive videos and lots of fun stuff.

What’s on the video board?

or make a good play. When the Flyers score a goal, a red light will go off

behind the goal net and a REALLY loud horn will blow. When this happens,

stand up and cheer! The Flyers want to hear you get loud!

Why is everyone so loud?

Restrooms are located on the Main Concourse behind the seating

areas. If you need to use the restroom, ask an adult in your group

and they will take you. Never go to the restroom by yourself and do

not ever leave the restroom without an adult.

If the game is in the middle of play, you’ll need to wait at that entrance to

your section behind the Event Staff worker. Fans are not allowed to walk

back to their seats when the puck is in play because it will obstruct the

view of other fans who are trying to watch the game. Once the whistle

blows and play is stopped, the Event Staff will let you go back to your seat.

Why do we have to wait to go back to our seats?

noisy. Make sure you do not get separated from your group and stay with

an adult at all times when you are trying to leave the game.
