I’m Happy That God Made Me!

Panel 1Unfold the StoryBoard to reveal Panel 1. Hold the StoryBoard

on your lap and cover the silver paper on Panel 1 with your hand so the children can’t see it. Say: I have a riddle for you to guess.

God made something specialWith a nose and ears and eyes.He worked on it so carefully. What is God’s surprise?

I have the answer to the riddle here under my hand. Would you like a peek? When you look, you’ll see the special something God made! Let each child peek under your hand. Ask each child who he or she sees, and then say: God made me, and God made you.

We can play a Guess Who? game. You close your eyes, and I’ll choose someone to come look through the StoryBoard. Then you can open your eyes, and you can tell me that person’s name. Have children close their eyes. Tap a child on the head and have him or her peek through the oval on Panel 1. Then ask, “Guess who?” Let children open their eyes and tell the name of the child peeking through the oval. Continue until each child has had a turn peeking through the StoryBoard.

God made you, and God made me. Let’s see how God made us special.

Panel 2 Unfold Panel 2 of the StoryBoard, which shows a child

smelling a flower, a child holding a blanket and listening to a bird singing, and a child holding an ice-cream cone.

Say: Look at these children enjoying the outdoors. Did you know that God gave us lots of ways to enjoy the world? God gave us eyes to see with. Blink your eyes.

Pause. God gave us ears to hear with. Show me your ears. Pause. He gave us noses to smell with. Pat your nose. Pause. God gave us tongues to taste with. Stick out your tongue. Pause. And God gave us fingers to touch things with. Wiggle your fingers. Pause. God made you, and God made me with all these special things.

Let’s find the little girl. We can use our fingers to touch her blanket. Let each child touch the blanket. The girl is thankful for fingers that can feel.

We can find the boy who’s sniffing the flowers. Can you sniff the flower, too? Invite each child to scratch and sniff the flower sticker. The boy is thankful for noses that can smell things.

Here’s a boy tasting ice cream. Let’s feel the ice-cream cone, and then I have something for you to taste. After children have touched the ice-cream cone, hand each a small cracker and let them eat. The boy is thankful for tongues that can taste.

I’m thankful that God made me. He gave me eyes and a nose and a tongue and ears. Let’s see what other special things God gave us.

Lesson 13

Panel 3Unfold Panel 3, and say: Children like to have a good

time at the park. Let’s find some happy children in this picture. As you ask each of the following questions, have children take turns pointing out the children on the StoryBoard.

• Who can find the children playing with a teddy bear?• Who can find the child tossing a ball?

• Where are the children playing in the leaves?• Who can find the daddy pushing the little boy in an airplane swing?• Where are the children with a bucket and sand?• Who can find a girl who is running?• Who can find the boy by the slide?• Where is the girl on the bouncy toy pony? When each child has had a turn pointing out a child on the StoryBoard, say: These

children are happy for all the good things God made. Bring out the cutout friend you made with the sad face.

Ask: • Is this child happy? (No; I don’t know.)• Do you like to be happy? (Yes; sometimes I am sad.)Hold up each of the puppets, one at a time. Ask: • Is this person happy? (Yes; the child is smiling.) Say: We can all be happy. Let’s make some happy children. Hand each

child a paper with a person outline and a crayon. As the children color, help them draw a smiley mouth on the child they are coloring. As you do, say: God made happy things.

Say: We can be happy, too. We can be happy that God made me and that God made you. We can be

happy because God made each one of us special. You’re so special to God that he sent his only Son, Jesus, to earth for you! Let’s sing a song to remind us that God made us in a special way.

n God Made EveryoneSUPPLIES: CD player

Using the CD, lead children in singing “God Made Every One of Us” (track 15) to the tune of “A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea.” Do the accompanying motions for extra fun.

Oh, God made every one of us. (Point up.)Yes, he made you and you and you. (Point to different children.)But God made each one differently (point to your face with both hands)To be part of one big, happy family. (Give a child a hug.)

Say: You sing so nicely! Singing is a good way to tell God thank you for making us special. Now let’s add thankful hearts to our bulletin board.

Bible Activitiesn Interactive Bible Bulletin BoardSUPPLIES: heart patterns (p. 158), scissors, tape

Before class, photocopy and cut out a paper heart for each child. Use the patterns at the end of this lesson.

Bring out Cuddles the Lamb. Go through the following script, and then put Cuddles away out of sight of the children.

Cuddles: Hi! I am so happy to be here. What did you learn today?

Teacher: We learned that God made me. And we’re very happy and thankful today, Cuddles.

Cuddles: Why are you happy and thankful?

Teacher: We’re happy because God made each one of us special, and he loves us very much. We’re getting ready to add to our bulletin board. You can help us, Cuddles.

Cuddles: Goody! I like to help. What are we going to do?

Teacher: We’re going to put up happy hearts to show God we’re glad that he loves us.

As you hand the children paper hearts, have Cuddles ask the children questions. For example: Cuddles: Who made you? Child: God did. Cuddles: Why are you happy? Child: Because God loves me.

Help children tape the hearts to the bulletin board or on a wall. Each time a child places a heart, say, “I’m happy that God made [child’s name].”

I’m Happy That God Made Me!

Have the children sit in a circle on the floor. Have one child walk around the outside of the circle tapping heads and saying, “God made me; God made me; God made me; God made YOU!” Have the child tapped on the word “you” jump up and clap his or her hands. Then have that child become the next tapper.

Say: God made us carefully. God made us with lots of love. And we can be happy and thankful that God made me and that God made you. Have children tiptoe to the snack table.

Closingn Celebration SnacksSUPPLIES: banana halves, paper plates, powdered fruit-flavored gelatin, napkins

Gather the children at the snack table. In front of each child, set a paper plate with a banana half on it. Pour a small pile of powdered fruit gelatin on each plate. Tell the children not to eat their fruit yet.

After everyone has been served, say: God made me, and God made you. I’m glad he loves us, aren’t you? Let’s say thank you to God for making us just the way we are. Encourage children to finish the sentence “Thank you, God, for [me, my eyes, my arms, or making me special].” Close the prayer by saying: God made me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Let the children dip their bananas in the powdered gelatin. Encourage them to tell about things that make them happy.

As children are leaving, remind them to take home their pictures and people.

n God Made MeSit in a circle and have children roll a ball back and forth to each other as they sing “God Made You” with

the CD (track 16). The lyrics are on page 156. As the ball goes to each child, say: God made you, [child’s name], and I am so glad he did!

n Who Do I Hear?Play this game to review the lessons from Module 2, “God Made the Animals.” Let children take turns

making animal sounds while the others guess which animal is being imitated. For extra fun, let the children act out animal motions. Play until everyone has had a turn making an animal noise.
