The Cambridge Improving Access toPsychological Therapies (IAPTTeams) aims to help adults sufferingfrom common psychologicalproblems and has been developing anew programme of grouptreatments.

How will therapy help?How will therapy help?How will therapy help?How will therapy help?We provide a range of therapies andyour therapist will advise and planwith you the most appropriatetreatment package to help you withthe difficulties you are experiencing.This could be individual, group workor a combination of treatmentapproaches.

Types of help include guided selfhelp (supporting you to helpyourself), Cognitive BehaviouralTherapy (CBT), group work,employment and social support andadvice and signposting to otheragencies who can help with specificissues.

Overcoming depressionOvercoming depressionOvercoming depressionOvercoming depressionA therapy course aimed at patientsexperiencing low mood. Uses CBT skillsto help deal with the symptoms ofdepression and promote psychologicalwellbeing - 12 sessions.

Anxiety managementAnxiety managementAnxiety managementAnxiety managementThis course delivers information andskills training for the different elementsof anxiety (thoughts, worries,behaviour, physical symptoms) -          5 fortnightly sessions.

Coping with traumaCoping with traumaCoping with traumaCoping with traumaThis course is aimed at patients whohave experienced a single trauma.  Itwill deliver information and skillstraining relevant to the trauma -         6 fortnightly sessions.

Life skills courseLife skills courseLife skills courseLife skills courseMindfulness-based course aimed atpatients experiencing stress, chronicpain, chronic fatigue and anxiety. Involves a mix of guided meditation,mindful movement and discussion -    8 weekly sessions.

Building self-esteemBuilding self-esteemBuilding self-esteemBuilding self-esteemThe group aims to help youunderstand how low self-esteemdevelops, what keeps it going andhow to make changes which enableyou to start to feel more confidentand compassionate towardsyourself. The group involves someteaching of cognitive behaviouralideas as well as encouraging groupdiscussions around weekly topics -12 sessions.

Work-based stressWork-based stressWork-based stressWork-based stressThe course is run with the RichmondFellowship and is intended to addressboth practical and psychologicalissues faced by people experiencingwork-based stress.

How do you get access to the service?How do you get access to the service?How do you get access to the service?How do you get access to the service?In the first instance you need to visityour GP or practice nurse who will referyou to IAPT. The IAPT programme aimsto provide a responsive service so youwill usually be contacted by the teamwithin a couple of weeks of receivingthe referral. The telephone number ofyour local service is given overleaf.
