Indian Council of Food and Agriculture is working as the apex level policy research and trade facilitation body and
resource centre for food and agriculture sector in India and also serving as the global platform for partnerships,
technology, investments and agribusiness services. ICFA through its proactive policy and development agenda,
and national and global partnerships is creating opportunities for growth, value addition and trade to help improve
the income of farmers. The Council through its various Industry Working Groups, Sector Specific Councils, State
and District Councils and Global Partnership Platforms, seeks to represent the interests of the key stakeholders at
the national level on one hand and position India's food and agriculture sector globally on the other hand.
To address to the issue of sustainability, food safety and quality standards, ICFA has taken up agriculture
stewardship program by launching India Good Agriculture Practices (IndGAP). ICFA is also promoting trade,
technologies and business ventures in farm sector by forging global partnerships with right institutions. In a short
period of two years, the Council has signed up over a dozen MoUs globally; including with the University of
California, University of Maryland, Michigan State University, Iowa State University, Western Australia University,
German Agribusiness Alliance, Borlaug Institute for South Asia, African Asian Rural Development Organization,
IFPRI etc.. The 20 Member ICFA Board has persons of world eminence with Prof. MS Swaminathan as its Patron.

rop losses owing to pest and diseases are
Cinherent to any agricultural system. The intensification of agricultural production and international trade together with the effects of climate change have increased
the pressure of pests and diseases on crops. Annual crop losses caused by insects, weeds and diseases are estimated between 20 to 40 percent, similar to those of 50 years ago. Global pesticide use has expanded to about 3 billion tonnes per year. Crop protection products are vital to the production of a safe, affordable and abundant supply of crops. Without effective pesticides, the loss would have been double. According to a recently published report, the Global Crop Protection Market is expected to grow at the CAGR of 5.23% during 2015-2022 and it is estimated to be $70.12 billion by 2022. India is the fourth largest producer of agrochemicals globally, after the US, Japan and China. However, the usage of agrochemicals in India is one of the lowest in the world at just 0.58 kg per hectare. India produces agrochemicals worth $5 billion with 60% being exported. The country with its advanced supporting industries, cheap and quality raw material and skilled manpower is highly promising destination for global agchem manufacturing hub.
Crop protection chemicals can increase crop productivity by 25%-50%, by mitigating crop losses due to pest attacks, including storage losses. Crop protection chemicals are therefore very crucial to ensure food and nutritional security. However, there is increasing national and global momentum for bio-pesticides. Major companies globally are getting into bio-pesticides business, which promises great products and technologies for the farmers. Although crop protection measures figure only towards the end of any package of practices, they ultimately determine the health and quantity of the harvest. Investing in appropriate crop protection measures is hence a very wise and prudent way in ensuring successful agriculture. International Conference on Crop Protection organized by ICFA thus becomes a significant step towards bringing together all the stakeholders on a single platform to discuss and evolve steps for increasing global trade and cooperation, increasing crop protection coverage, committing greater investments for R&D, encouraging use of green chemistry molecules or bio-pesticides and finalizing protocols for judicious and sustainable way of using crop protection products.
OBJECTIVESThe conference aims at achieving the following specific objectives:
To discuss the global and national crop protection opportunities, issues and challenges, market and regulatory out look, t rends and emerging opportunities.
To discuss research and technology interventions happening, advances in molecule and process R&D globally, concept of IPM and its application in Indian context
To discuss the problems faced by the farmers in protecting crops from pests, the challenge of safe and judicious use of pesticides towards ensuring effective crop protection coverage.
To discuss the global and national policy and regulatory systems and how to streamline the process of registrations, exports-imports, manufacturing etc. so as to ensure quality products to the farmers.
To discuss the policy, trade, technology, and investments perspectives on national and global level and the role of the States, industry and institutions towards promoting sustainable crop protection
