IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

BHHS Families, This application packet contains vital information related to IB exam registration and fees. Read it completely and provide all requested information. For questions, please see Mrs. Hall (thall@bloomfield.org) or Mrs. Osborn (josborn@bloomfield.org). All deadline dates and accompanying fees will be strictly adhered to in order to meet requirements set forth by the IBO. The packet must be completed and submitted no later than Wednesday, November 1, 2017, to Mrs. Osborn (located in the Counseling Office). NOTE: The packet may be submitted BEFORE exam fees are paid, however applicable registration and exam late fees will apply until all fees are paid in full.

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME REGISTRATION & EXAM APPLICATION DIPLOMA CANDIDATES The full diploma candidate must design a course of study that will allow him or her to successfully complete examinations in each of the following subject areas:

- Group 1/Language A

- Group 2/Language B

- Group 3/Individuals and Societies

- Group 4/Experimental Sciences-choice of emphasis in Biology, Chemistry

- Group 5/Mathematics

- Group 6/The Arts

In addition, IB Diploma candidates complete TOK, CAS, and Extended Essay requirements. ANTICPATED CANDIDATES

An anticipated candidate is a junior student who is the first year of an IB diploma program and who registers for one exam.

CERTIFICATE CANDIDATES

The certificate candidate selects courses based on area(s) of interest and is eligible to receive an IB certificate in the designated subject based on the score earned on an IB Exam. GRADING SYSTEM

The IB evaluation system is criterion-referenced. This means that each student's performance is measured against well-defined levels of achievement consistent from one exam session to the next. Grades reflect attainment of knowledge and skills relative to set standards equally applied to all schools. Each subject is graded out of 7 points. The TOK and the Extended Essay are awarded a combined total of 3 diploma points for a total of 45 possible points. AWARDING OF THE DIPLOMA Full Diploma Programme students must earn a minimum of 24 of the potential 45 points in order to earn the IB Diploma. Course selection requirements include three Standard Level (SL) courses and three Higher Level (HL) courses; UNLESS they forego taking the Group 6/Arts class and take both of the Group 4/Experimental Sciences courses. Additionally, students must complete the core components of CAS, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. In order to receive an IB diploma, the following conditions must be met:

- 6 academic subjects must be completed and are marked on a scale of 1 to 7, up to 42 points* - ToK and Extended Essay components must be completed. An additional 3 points are awarded

from a combination of ToK and Extended Essay marks - CAS requirements must be fulfilled

IB CANDIDATE REGISTRATION FEE & EXAMINATION FEE The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) annually receives a grant that allows eligible students to take a qualified IB test free of charge. This fee reduction is conditional upon the continued funding of this grant. Eligible students must meet one of following criteria listed:

- Qualifies for free or reduced lunch - Receives assistance under part A of Title IV of the Social Security Act - Receives medical assistance under the Medicaid program under Title XIX of the Social Security Act
