IBM Flex System p24LCompute Node
Highlights
Integration by design: compute nodesare deeply integrated with storage,
networking and management resources
so your solution deploys quickly and
are easy to manage
Built-in expertise: engineering expertise
allows you to extract the full capability of
the POWER7 processor
Simplified experience: systems
management can automatically discover
the node for simple configuration and
quick deployment
To meet todays complex and ever-changing business demands, you need
a solid foundation of compute, storage, networking and software
resources that is simple to deploy and can quickly and automatically
adapt to changing conditions. You also need to be able to take advantageof broad expertise and proven best practices in systems management,
applications, hardware maintenance and more. The IBM PureFlex
System combines leading edge compute capabilities, advanced
IBM storage hardware and storage management along with patterns
of expertise and integrates them in complete, optimized solutions.
IBM Flex System p24L Compute Node is a POWER7-based server
optimized for virtualization, performance and extraordinary efficiency.
The node supports Linux operating environments and is designed
to run a wide variety of workloads in your PureFlex System.
The IBM Flex System p24L compute node delivers the outstandingperformance of the IBM POWER7 processor in a dense, highly efficient
form factor for Linux customers. It is ideal for running multiple Linux
infrastructure and application workloads, virtualized with PowerVM,
more economically than traditional Linux servers. Take advantage
of the IBM Flex System p24Ls scalability and capacity by leveraging
IBMs feature rich PowerVM virtualization technology to fully utilize
the servers capacity and deploy virtual partitions faster as well as move
workloads as needed across IBM PowerLinux and Power Systems
servers with Live Partition Mobility.

Also, PowerVM now features Active Memory Sharing, the
technology that allows you to intelligently exchange memory
between running partitions for increased optimization of
physical memory resources. Active Memory Sharing enables
the sharing of a pool of physical memory among logical
partitions (LPARs) on a single server, helping to increase
memory utilization and drive down system costs.
The IBM Flex System p24L Compute Node is optimized for
Linux and benefits from POWER7 performance, Intelligent
Threads technology, high memory, and I/O bandwidth. Like
Watson, Linux workloads running on the P24L Compute
Node will benefit from POWER7 processor performance,
virtualization efficiencies, unique workload optimizing features,
and industry-leading reliability, availability and scalability.
Flexible storage and networking
improves the agility of your businessBuilt in storage capabilities on the compute nodes include up to
two 2.5 in. small form factor hard drives or up to two 1.8 in.
solid state drives. The nodes can also access storage attached
through the network and managed with IBM Flex System
Manager. Networking options include 1 Gb or 10 Gb Ethernet
expansion and 8 Gb Fibre Channel expansion for connection
to external storage. These features allow you to tailor your
environment to match your specific capacity, performance,
cost, reliability needs, and also supports virtualized storage for
Cloud computing applications.
Advanced, integrated system
management offers simplicityWith the Flex System Manager, you get advanced management
capabilities for the compute nodes and your full PureFlex
System. Flex System Manager is designed to simplify and
optimize your management of physical and virtual resources
and the workloads that you run on them.
Flex System Manager uses built-in expertise through wizards
and auto discovery to help you deploy systems and expand yoursolution when needed. Add new hardware nodes and with a
few clicks they become part of your resource pool. Deploying
virtual machines is simple too. You define the resources needed
and Flex System Manager places the VM automatically.
IBM has decades of experience
delivering essential ITIBM has taken knowledge, expertise and technology gained
from decades of experience and investment in IT solutions for
business problems and integrated it into the PureFlex System.
And with a commitment to open standards you can integrate
IBM solutions with other elements of your own environment
with your network of partners, customers and suppliers.
With a broad ecosystem of partners with technical and
industry expertise, and the unique ability and skill to
integrate it all together for you along with an unwavering
commitment to your successyou can rely on IBM and
your IBM PureFlex System.
