This documentation update provides information about LoadLeveler Version 5Release 1. These updates are divided into the following sections:v “Changes and additions to IBM LoadLeveler V5.1: Using and Administering

(SC23-6792-04)” on page 3.

Within these sections, a vertical line in the page margin indicates a technicalchange that applies to the final edition of the information (V5.1).

Changes and additions to IBM LoadLeveler V5.1: Using andAdministering (SC23-6792-04)

This update provides new and changed information for the previously publishedIBM LoadLeveler V5.1: Using and Administering (SC23-6792-04) publication.

Chapter 7: Building and submitting jobsNote the following corrections to Chapter 7 of IBM LoadLeveler V5.1: Using andAdministering.

Correction to POE sample job command file:v In the section titled POE sample job command file on page 197, the first example

job command file contains an error that occurs on two lines. The use of commasin the syntax of the network.LAPI and network.PAMI commands is incorrect. For example,# @ network.LAPI = sn_all,US,,instances=1

should be:# @ network.LAPI = sn_all,,US,instances=1

In the following corrected version of the “POE sample job command file”section, vertical lines ( | ) in the page margins indicate the location of thecorrected text.

POE sample job command fileThis is a sample job command file for POE:## @ job_type = parallel# @ environment = COPY_ALL# @ output = poe.out# @ error = poe.error# @ node = 8,10# @ tasks_per_node = 2# @ network.LAPI = sn_all,,US,instances=1# @ network.MPI = sn_all,,US,instances=1# @ wall_clock_limit = 60# @ executable = /usr/bin/poe# @ arguments = /u/richc/My_POE_program -euilib "us"# @ class = POE# @ queue

In this example:v The total number of nodes requested is a minimum of eight and a maximum of

10 (node=8,10). Two tasks run on each node (tasks_per_node=2). Thus the totalnumber of tasks can range from 16 to 20.

v Each task of the job will run using the LAPI protocol in US mode with a switchadapter (network.LAPI=sn_all,,US,instances=1), and using the MPI protocol inUS mode with a switch adapter (network.MPI=sn_all,,US,instances=1).

v The maximum run time allowed for the job is 60 seconds (wall_clock_limit=60).

This is another sample job command file for POE:

## @ job_type = parallel# @ input = poe.in.1# @ output = poe.out.1# @ error = poe.err# @ node = 2,8# @ network.MPI = sn_single,shared,IP# @ wall_clock_limit = 60# @ class = POE# @ queue/usr/bin/poe /u/richc/my_POE_setup_program -infolevel 2/usr/bin/poe /u/richc/my_POE_main_program -infolevel 2

In this example:v POE is invoked twice, through my_POE_setup_program and

my_POE_main_program.v The job requests a minimum of two nodes and a maximum of eight nodes

(node=2,8).v The job by default runs one task per node.v The job uses the MPI protocol with a switch adapter in IP mode

(network.MPI=sn_single,shared,IP).v The maximum run time allowed for the job is 60 seconds (wall_clock_limit=60).
