On a "Bio-sensor" display, it mon itors the life sup p ort system, inidc at ing oxygen pressure, temp er a ture, hull leaks, radiation, and t he metabQQism of the crew. (pa ge 96, 138) It also participates in the revival of the hibe r nating crew (page 141). 2. The computer, " Ath ena", makes navigational c omputations, controls flight maneuvers, and probably keeps time. 3. It a lso cont a ins a va riet y of communication ge ar, including tr ansmitters, rec e ivers, radars, an d tape recording equipment . 4. It provides movies, electronic a lly printed books and newspapers and manuals and engineering dr a wings; it displays "faces" of people on ea rth, paays chess and word games an d provides music for listening entertainment. 5 . The comp ut er ma i ntains a "log" of t he journAfY, ma king its own entries plus those of Bowman, which he records verbally . The computer takes ve rbal instructions and replies through a "speech synthesizer" (female voice). 6. An infrared sc anner to t he computer which, in turn, displays a heat map . The computer a lso stores photographic information supp lied to it, and recr eates ph otogr aph s. 7 . COMPUTER'S FEATURES 1 . On a "Bio-sensor" display, it monitors the life

support system, inidcat ing oxygen pressure, temperature, hull leaks, radiation, and t he metabQQism of the crew. (page 96, 138) It also participates in the revival of the hiber nating crew (page 141).

2. The computer, "Athena", makes navigational computations, controls flight maneuvers, and probably keeps time.

3. It also contains a variety of communication gear, including transmitters, receivers, radars, and tape recording equipment .
