IBM Storwize V5010E & V5030E – Supported Drives
Storwize V5010E system scales to 392 drives per system with the attachment of four Storwize V5000E high density LFF
Expansion Enclosures (5U per enclosure). It also supports 2U 12-slot or 24-slot expansion enclosures.
A Storwize V5030E system scales to 760 drives per system with the attachment of eight Storwize V5000E high density LFF
Expansion Enclosures. Storwize V5030E systems can be clustered to help deliver even greater performance, bandwidth, and
storage capacity. With two way system clustering, the maximum size of a Storwize V5030E system increases to 1,520
drives.
* These are 2.5-inch drives packaged in a 3.5-inch carrier.
NOTE: While the V5030E supports up to 1,520 drives in a 2-
way cluster, that does not mean you can actually place that
many drives into the system. The maximum number of drives
will depend on the capacity of the drives. A 2-way cluster has a
max capacity of 32PB. If large drives are used you will run out
of capacity before you use 1,520 drives.

IBM Storwize V5100 & V5100F – Supported Drives
A Storwize V5100 system scales to 760 drives per system with the attachment of eight Storwize V5000E high density LFF
Expansion Enclosures. Storwize V5100 systems can be clustered to help deliver even greater performance, bandwidth, and
storage capacity. With two way system clustering, the maximum size of a Storwize V5100 system increases to 1,520 drives.
Storwize V5100F only supports Flash devices…
FCMs, NVMe SSDs, and SAS SSDs.

drives into the system. The maximum number of drives will
depend on the capacity of the drives. A 2-way cluster has a
max capacity of 32PB. If large drives are used you will run out
of capacity before you use 1,520 drives. If you believe you
might actually approach 32PB of capacity then it is suggested
that you consider using a V7000 or FlashSystem 9100.

What is Elastic Storage Server?
• ESS is a software defined storage implementation built on Power servers and commodity storage enclosures (JBODs)
– All the storage intelligence in ESS is implemented in software
• ESS being a SDS implementation – does not require any backend block storage
• ESS eliminates risks and makes it quick to deploy and grow a Spectrum Scale cluster
– Fully validated hardware and software stack
– Pre-assembled and pre-configured
• Available in both high performance (All-Flash) and high capacity(hybrid) models

Contrary to what some vendors have been saying, tape is far from dead! In fact tape has new relevance in the world of mass data storage There are many reasons for tape’s new found interest including:
1. Storage Cost / GB $0.017 per GB 2. High Reliability 1 Bit Error per 100 PB of Data Stored 3. Long Shelf Life 30+ Years (Disk = 5 Years) 4. Total Cost of Ownership 26X Lower TCO than Disk 5. Data Protection Encryption / WORM / Offline Stop Gap 6. Green Storage Idle Cartridges Consume No Energy 7. Infinite Scalability Just Add More Cartridges 8. Transportable Media is Easy to Ship – High-Bandwidth In-a-Box 9. Easy to Manage PBs of Tape Storage vs. 100s of TB of Disk Storage 10. Easy to Use Automation and Spectrum Archive Make Tape
Easier to Manage than Ever
