Cloud groups• Cloud groups represent a pool of resource to which you

can deploy patterns

Can be custom cloud groups (collection of defined hypervisors) or managed cloud groups (reference to VMControl or vCenter)

Hypervisors• Hypervisors are hosts capable of hosting virtualized

environments created from pattern deployment

Can be PowerVM, zVM, or VMware ESX hosts

IP groups• IP groups contain subnet information and a range of IP

addresses that are assigned to deployed environments

Virtual system patterns• Virtual system patterns are a collection of image parts and script

packages that represent a middleware environment

Treated as atomic units in IBM Workload Deployer

IBM Hypervisor Edition images• IBM Hypervisor Edition images are virtual images that contain an

operating system and selected middleware components

Various OS distributions and middleware products/versions

Image parts• Image parts are the different types of nodes you can create using

an IBM Hypervisor Edition image

Script packages• Script packages provide a way to customize the configuration of

IBM Hypervisor Edition image parts

Definition includes description and invocation details

Add-ons• Add-ons are specialized scripts that provide system-level

configuration and tuning

Add-ons run before script packages in the deployment process

Virtual system instances• Virtual system instances are created by deploying virtual system

patterns

Virtual system instances contain one or more virtual machines

Virtual application patterns• Virtual application patterns are a collection of platform resources

that constitute a complete application environment

Serve to abstract complexities of middleware infrastructure by focusing on the business need

Pattern types• Pattern types are collections of plug-ins that provide a specific

solution

Pattern types are used to build virtual application patterns

Cloud components• Cloud components represent a middleware service in a virtual

application pattern

Policies• Policies represent how a middleware service is configured and

managed

Links• Links describe the relationship between cloud components in a

virtual application pattern

Virtual application templates• Virtual application templates represent predefined components

and configuration used to deploy environments

Reusable components• Reusable components are predefined cloud components that

can be used to build virtual application patterns

Virtual application instances• Virtual application instances are created by deploying virtual

application patterns

Virtual application instances provide workload-aware management

Emergency fixes• Emergency fixes are used to apply fixes and updates to virtual

system instances

Fixes may be IBM provided or custom

Shared services• Shared services are system components that provide runtime

services to virtual application instances

Environment profiles• Environment profiles are used to group related resources and

provide more control over deployment configuration

 Enable fine-grained resource limit controls

Other terms• Virtual appliances: An OVF file and related VMware virtual

disks that have been imported into IBM Workload Deployer

• Task queue: The list of running and pending tasks in IBM Workload Deployer

• Users: Defined users of the IBM Workload Deployer system

• User groups: Collections of defined users
